Brief downtime this morning
Hi folks,
We have some maintenance work we need to do on the servers this morning that is going to require a brief period of downtime. We'll start work at 9:30AM Pacific Time, and we shouldn't be down for more than 15 minutes. Just wanted to give you all the heads up. Hope you're enjoying the site! Mike |

IM service
The company we use for instant messaging had some issues recently with their service. We've been told everything is fixed now, so you shouldn't be experiencing any further difficulties. If you're still having problems with IM, just let us know and we'll take a look.
Hope you're all enjoying the site! |

Copyrighted material
AP (Associated Press) articles are not press releases. You are not free to reprint them, so therefore, our rules on copyrighted materials applies to AP articles as well.

Copyrighted material
Hi folks,
There's been some questions about posting copyrighted material on the site. We are in the process of getting clarification from an attorney on what is permissible and what is not. In the mean time, we believe that it is NOT acceptable to post an entire copyrighted article into the forums. Posting a brief excerpt from an article for discussion purposes which includes a link to the main article would most likely be considered fair use and consequently is acceptable. We are in the process of reflecting this in the rules, but for now, please adhere to the following rule: No Copyrighted Material Information copyrighted or owned by any individual or entity other than the member should not be posted on the discussion forums or software libraries without the consent of the owner. If such an event occurs, the individual posting the information shall be held solely responsible. JustSayHi, nor Next Dating LLC shall not be held responsible for member-posted information that may violate copyright law. You cannot legally post entire articles or news in the forum without permission from the copyright holder. Even if you attribute the article correctly it's still copyright infringement. Copyright law does not care if you make any money off of the work or not. What matters is if you hurt the potential income of the copyright holder. In this case you would be depriving them of ad revenue and it is illegal. Under Fair Use provisions you can legally post a small abstract of an article - or perhaps the opening paragraph. So if you want to post an article you should do this and include a link, or just post the link. The exception to this rule is press releases; press releases are meant for distribution and can be copied and distributed as much as you want. If you are not sure if you can copy something then always err on the side of caution and simply post a link to the material. Thanks everyone for your cooperation. Mike |

I know this topic was created with light-hearted intentions but I think some of the posts are starting to cross the line in terms of attacking or insulting other members who didn't even choose to participate in the topic.
Therefore, I'm locking this topic. Let's make sure to remember that the purpose of the site is to meet new people and make sure they feel welcome. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation. |

Hi "Chicas" -
This is a reminder - attacking other members on the forums will not be permitted under any circumstance. Anyone who attacks another member on the site risks having their posting privileges suspended or even a permanent ban from the site. Forming a group to attack other members is even worse and will not be tolerated. If you have an issue with another user, use the Report Post button on the post in question and a moderator will look into it promptly. Or, you may use the Report Abuse button on their profile. Those are the only permissible courses of action you may take. We're not going to permit this stuff, so please don't test us. The last thing we want to do is suspend or ban people, but we will if we have to, so help us out by making sure to stick to the forum rules at all times. Thanks for your cooperation. |

I know there are a lot of members who would love to have a chatroom on the site. We've had this feature requested this many, many times, and it is something we would love to provide if we felt we could do it right.
The issue with having a chatroom on the site, though, is that we can't monitor it to the degree we feel is necessary to ensure a quality experience. Unfortunately, the forums already require quite a bit of moderating - to keep JSH the great place that it is, there's a tremendous amount of work done by the volunteer moderators and the admins to make sure that the forums remain friendly and fun. Moderating a chat room is 100 times harder, and we simply don't feel we can provide a great chat room experience without adequate moderation. Until we feel like we could provide a quality experience, we won't add chatrooms to the site. And unfortunately, I don't see us being able to provide a great chat experience anytime soon. Now, there have also been a LOT of personal attacks and insults on this topic. As you all should know, those attacks are against the forum rules. This is a warning to ALL of you - personal attacks will not be tolerated. Further attacks will result in a suspension of your posting privileges, so please, let's keep the discussion civil. All of you have, in fact, demonstrated very clearly on this topic exactly why we will NOT be adding chat rooms to the site. |

Hi everyone,
We released a new feature today - you can now customize which forums appear on your forum page. You can use this feature to hide or show whatever forums you'd like. For example, if you're not interested in the Current Events forum, you can now remove that forum from your page and you won't see that forum any longer. To customize your forum page, just click on the "Community" tab, then click on "Settings" in the bar below the tabs. You can check or uncheck any forums you'd like. Then just hit "Update Settings" and your changes will take effect. Now that you can manage the number of forums on your page more easily, we'll be adding more forums on topics like Science and Travel, plus forums for different age groups. If you don't want to participate in them, you can just take them out! Hope you like the new feature, and hope you are all enjoying the site! Mike |
