Hi folks,
A few things here: - It is against the rules to post advertisements for other websites on the message boards. We let a few things slide like posting youtube video links, etc., but for the most part we enforce the rule fairly strictly. - The topic in question "looked" like an advertisement, which is why it was deleted. We, unfortunately, get a lot of sneaky people posting what looks like a harmless topic, but in fact is a trick to get you to visit another website. Because we don't have a lot of time to investigate every single topic posted like this to ensure it's truly legitimate, we delete them as a general rule. - In this case, I looked into the website and upon further review, it looks legit, so we'll repost the topic. - HOWEVER, in the future, ANY protests of mod actions that are posted in the forums will be deleted immediately and the poster will be suspended. The forums are NOT the proper venue to protest any moderator actions. Instead, you should just email one of the mods, myself, or Vanchau, and we will look into the situation and take the appropriate action. Remember everyone that the moderators are here for YOUR benefit. They help make the site safe and fun for everyone. You may not agree with every single decision they make, but the good they do FAR outweighs any minor disagreements you may have with them. We will not allow them to be needlessly bashed on the forums, just as we would not allow YOU to be needlessly bashed on the forums. If you have an issue with any mods, take it up with me. I'll be happy to listen to your greivance and respond. But if you take it up on the boards, I guarantee that in the future, you won't receive the response you want. |

spam ads
Sorry folks, but we do need to try to earn some money from the site to keep it running. We will try though to do it in the least annoying manner possible, but unfortunately, ads need to be visible or they aren't seen.
We did, however, switch the ads today so that only text ads will be shown in the forums, not image ads. The image ads seem more annoying to us than the text ads which are more subtle. Thanks for understanding. |

The ads are new - we're testing them to see if we can generate some additional revenue from the site. There shouldn't be any other impact to the site though. If you're seeing any issues on the website, try hitting the "Refresh" button on your browser. That should fix any problems related to the new ads.
I know the ads are slightly annoying, but we need to make money from the site somehow! My daughter needs to eat
If they are not generating any significant additional revenue, I promise we'll remove them. But if they are, we may need to keep them in place. Sorry for the inconvenience - we'll keep you posted! |

Rule clarification
If you're referring to the thread I think you're referring to, we originally removed it because an email from a mod was posted in the topic. Remember that mods are users too, and posting emails from other users in the forums is against the rules.
However, after having discussed it with the other moderators, we felt that you guys were correct: the overall topic was positive and so we returned the thread to the forums and simply removed the post containing the email. We don't allow users to post emails from other users because it almost 100% of the time leads to drama that belongs in private messages, not in the public forums. That's why the rule is in place. Emails from mods, though, are in a gray area that we hadn't anticipated when writing the rules. I think if the purpose of posting the email from a mod was legitimate, i.e. not malicious, then we might be willing to allow it. Overall, though, I hope everyone can keep in mind that the moderation system and all of the volunteer mods are new. We're all still learning. Because of this, there are going to be occasional inconsistencies, but we're getting better at it and we're learning how to deal with the "gray areas." |

Verifying email
We only send the verification email when you request it. So if you received it 9 times, it's because you clicked on the "Resend" button 9 times.
You only have to verify your email once. Once it's verified, the message will disappear. The only way it will reappear is if you change your email address. In that case, we ask you to verify the new email address you have entered. Hope that helps. |

P.S. I do sympathize with the original poster. The email you received is totally uncalled for, rude, and inappropriate. We don't allow users to send malicious emails like that on JustSayHi, so if you do receive one, please use the "Report Abuse" button on the sender's profile and we'll investigate and take the appropriate action.

a big bug!!
Please DO NOT use the forums to report problems on users. Instead, either use the "Report Post" link on one of their posts to inform a moderator, or use the "Report Abuse" button on their profile if the problem is unrelated to the forums.
Using the forums to report a problem user would be considered an attack on that user and would be a forum violation. Using the Report Post and Report Abuse forms instead allows us to investigate the problem promptly and discreetly. Thanks for your cooperation. |

Folks -
Posting emails from other members on the message boards (which is what happened in the first post in this topic) is against the forum rules. The general content of this topic is fine, but as you can imagine, when members post emails from other members on the message boards, it can often lead to all kinds of drama. This is why the rule is in place, and why I'm locking this topic. I'll be deleting it in a minute, but just wanted to explain why first. Discussing these types of issues is fine, but to be permitted on the forums, you'd need to omit the email that was sent, and instead pose the question in a manner where not even the actual sender of the email would recognize that it was he/she you were discussing. Thanks for your cooperation. |

Four mutual matches
Does the email say you have 4 mutual matches, or that there are 4 people waiting to meet you?
If it says there are 4 people waiting to meet you, that means that 4 people have said "Yes" or "Maybe" to you in Mutual Match, but you haven't rated them back yet. To see if you are a match, you need to go to "Search", then "Mutual Match", and start rating profiles. If you click on "Yes" or "Maybe" to someone who also rated you as "Yes" or "Maybe", you'll both be notified that you are a Mutual Match. If the email says you have 4 mutual matches, and you only see 1 listed, then that's a bug and we'll look into why that is happening. Does that help explain things? |

Hi everyone,
Please remember to post your topic in the correct forum. If you want your profile rated, post in the new Rate My Profile forum. I've been moving the topics so far, but I'm going to just start deleting them now if they are posted in the wrong forum. So please make sure to post ratings topics in the Rate My Profile forum. Thanks. |

The following rules have been established to help maintain a civil and friendly environment, allowing everyone to enjoy the discussions found here.
Please read this post completely in order to prevent any potential rules violations. FORUM RULES 1) Do not attack/slam/insult others. You can discuss the message or topic, but not the messenger - NO EXCEPTIONS. If you are attacked by another user, and you reciprocate, YOU will also be subject to the same consequences. Defending yourself, defending a friend, etc. are NOT excuses. Violations of this rule are taken very seriously and may result in being banned without warning! 2) Topics which are started with the intent to denigrate, belittle, or disparage another JustSayHi member, either directly named or through enough descriptive commentary to be possibly identified, are prohibited. Such topics will be instantly deleted and may result in the banning of the original poster. This includes following another poster around in the forums, posting about past events gone sour, divulging personal information, spreading gossip or rumors, posting email exchanges between users, etc. Keep the drama off the forums! 3) Do not post an email or mail message from any other JustSayHi user or moderator on the forums at any time. 4) No explicit, sexual, offensive, insulting or vulgar language. The JustSayHi forums are rated PG-13. The only exception is the Sex and Dating forum which is rated R, NOT X. 5) No derogatory or offensive references to sex, gender, ethnicity, religions, or sexual orientation. 6) Pity-seeking or attention-seeking topics which serve only to draw attention to yourself are not permitted on the forums. The forums are provided for the enjoyment of all members. They are not about you. The only exception to this rule is the New Members Welcome Area where posters are permitted to introduce themselves to the community, and the Rate My Profile forum where you may ask for feedback about yourself and your profile. 7) Hijacking a topic by making posts which are off-topic and unrelated to the original post is considered rude. Please try to keep your posts pertinent to the topic at hand. We will allow some leeway in this area, as there is some amount of "topic drift" that occurs in a normal conversation that we will permit. However, members who we feel are continually and intentionally hijacking topics, especially after having been warned by a moderator, may have their posting privileges suspended. We ask all users to do their best to stay on-topic. 8) For your safety, do not post personal information such as telephone numbers, emails, mailing addresses, instant messenger ids, etc 9) Do not post messages that violate federal, state/provincial, or local laws which include, but are not limited to, anything that violates a copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret or is bound by NDA (non-disclosure agreement) 10) Do not spam the boards with advertisements for other services, websites, etc. 11) Post topics in the appropriate forum. For example, chat topics like "I'm bored", or "Goodnight everyone" belong in the Chit Chat forum. Members who repeatedly post topics in the wrong forum could lose their posting privileges. 12) Multiple profiles are not allowed. You may only have 1 profile per user. Users who are found to have created multiple profiles will have all of their profiles deleted. 13) Please do NOT post suicide notes or threats (or posts which could be interpreted as such) on the forums. This can be incredibly damaging to members and the staff, and we are NOT trained in counseling to deal with such things. If you DO feel suicidal, please contact a real life counselor or support helpline. We do care about you, but we are not equipped to deal with such a situation. If you post such a note, it will be immediately deleted from the forums and your account will be removed from the site. 14) "Goodbye" and "I'm leaving" posts where a user is declaring that they are leaving the site are not allowed and will be deleted from the forums. You obviously are free to leave the site at any time, but if you wish to notify your friends that you are going, please do so using the private messaging system. 15) If you have concerns about another poster or wish to report a rule violation, the ONLY appropriate venue is to use the Report Abuse feature or to message Vanchau or Mike. You may NOT air such concerns on the message boards themselves. If you have a general concern that does not involve a specific member, you may post your question in a civil manner in the "Feedback" or "Help" forums. 16) Protesting a moderator or admin action is not allowed on the forums at any time. Anyone that creates or participates in a protest topic, outlines any protest in their profile, posts any negative commentary with regards to moderation or administration, or discusses emails/actions between moderators/admins and themselves in their profiles or in the forums will have their posting privileges suspended or may even be permanently banned from the site. The forums or other public venues are not the appropriate place to lodge a complaint. If you have a question or concern about a moderator or admin action, you should email one of the moderators or an admin with your concern and we will investigate the matter promptly. 17) In general, you absolutely should feel free to report a post even if you are unsure if it violates the forum rules. A moderator will review it and determine if a rule has been broken. However, a very small group of members have attempted to abuse the Reporting functions of the site by submitting an excessive number of frivolous abuse reports. Overusing and abusing the Reporting functions in such a manner will be considered a violation of the site rules. Thanks for your cooperation and we hope you are enjoying the site!

Forum Etiquette
OK folks - I'm gonna lock this topic. But here's a few final comments I wanted to make:
- It is against the site rules to have multiple profiles. That's why some of your accounts were removed azrael. If it's not clear enough, I'll make sure to include it in more visible spots on the site. The reason for this rule is that people do all kinds of bad things with multiple profiles. They use them to deceive other people. They use them to get around site rules or bans. They use them to pretend that another user is supporting their argument, etc. etc. So we delete accounts that we find have multiple profiles. Again, we'll make this rule more clear on the site. - The rules are here to stay. I definitely agree with peachiepoohie that it'd be much better if everyone on the site could just behave like the adults that most of us are and follow the rules on their own, but unfortunately, we've learned the hard way that that will never happen. So, we (the site admins) created the forum rules to ensure that the forums remain the kind of place that we want them to be. Frankly, our rules are extremely loose. We pretty much allow you to talk about anything and everything on the site. We even allow criticism of the site to remain in most cases - that's not something you'll find on other sites. The one thing we are extremely strict about is that you can't attack other users. If you find our rules too restrictive, then perhaps JSH isn't the right place for you. But we think most people appreciate the fact that the rules exist, and that the mods do such a fantastic job in making sure they are enforced fairly. So thank you, mods, for everything that you do for the JustSayHi community! |

We are currently experiencing problems sending email to hotmail. We are working on a fix, but in the meantime, if you have a hotmail email address, you won't be able to receive email notifications. If you switch to a different email address, you shouldn't have any problems.
Sorry about that. We'll let you know as soon as a fix is up. |
