I must say however, that the passage you gave is referencing the communion ceremony. Jesus told his followers to drink wine and eat bread in remembrance of him. The blood is symbolized by the wine, and his flesh by the bread(which is usually cracker-like unleavened bread). So, as Pan suggested though not clearly enough, the interpretation of the verse you posted is not meant to be taken literally. That is probably true, but the question is, what does it symbolize? It symbolizes how a sacrifice is meant to be eaten. Jesus, being a sacrifice, symbolically must be accepted as such in order to be saved, therefore the eating of the flesh and the drinking of the blood symbolizes how a sacrifice is to be recieved. Which is my point of how killing an animal or giving it for sacrifice to a God was for the purpose of food. Food is energy for life. That is the symbolism. Jesus, being a sacrifice, symbolically must be accepted as such in order to be saved, therefore the eating of the flesh and the drinking of the blood symbolizes how a sacrifice is to be recieved. Jesus wasn't a "sacrifice". Jesus gave his life for you, he went to hell for you. He resurrected and defeated death for you. Jesus isn't to be accepted as a "sacrifice". Jesus is to be accepted as LORD and saviour. After Jesus she his blood on the cross, there was no sacrifing anything for forgiveness of sins, that covenant was fulfilled, completed, finished. A willing sacrifice is still a sacrifice. Yes, God sacrificed his son for the world. Yes, it was a sacrifice. JB. For it to have been a true "sacrifice" Jesus wouldn't have been able to "avoid" it. Jesus purposely sought his destiny to end where, when, and how it did. God didn't "sacrifice" anything. |

Interesting link. But none of those verses were canabolism supporting, for exampe the following verse was used in that site. Lamentations 4:10 10The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people. This isn't God or the scriptures supporting cannibolism or telling the people to do it. This is just what happened. I didn't say it was "supporting" cannibalism. In your post it says "Other cannibalism in the Bible" That is stating that the bible supports cannibalism. How do you get that impression? If the Bible "supports" everything that any story talks about that happened, then it supports a lot of evil things. I did not state that the Bible supports cannibalism. I simply sent you to a link that quotes what the Bible states about people eating their own children. You can interpret that however you like. So people who do not want to believe what the Bible says that Jesus said, just sluff it off and call it "symbolism." Jesus did not say that this was symbolism. He said "For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him." He did not say symbolism. He said "real food, and real drink." Perhaps, but he didn't slit his wrist, nor carve a chunk out of his shoulder.. He broke them a piece of bread and poured them some red wine.. Jesus didn't HAVE to say it was symbolism. Maybe the bread and wine turned into flesh and blood much like he turned the water into wine. He is supposed to be God after all. ..so this is speculation, opinion if you will.. Perception. |
