Marriage
Never been, in all likelyhood...Never will be.
I think of it as kind of an archaic ceremonial transfer of ownership and/or rights. |

QUOTE: What about terrorists? Do you think any were actually good people in the past? They seem brain-washed. Arguably every religion involves people who are brainwashed. Your good is based on a different meter than their good, what you view as a horrible event others would celebrate. Now; this brings up an excellent observation I've had on my mind for awhile, do note I live in the U.S. however, I cannot stand the American ego with "Our way of life is the only/better way of life." It is a largely limited view that is getting the U.S. absolutely nowhere. |

YOU WON'T FIND LOVE....
QUOTE: ...on the Internet. It's rare to even get to know someone at all. Those brave souls who actually date, may eventually find love. This medium is tricky, made worse by all the saps that prey on you, or me. Nobody wants that. I can write to 10 or 12 people and not hear back from anyone, or maybe 1 or 2. That's a lot of hesitation. That's a lot of pre-judgement. You don't have to date a person, just because you respond in an email...and dating doesn't secure your man or your woman for marriage or wild magical love. It does take some reaching out, some effort, and some dissappointment. It does take courage and letting go of your fears. You don't have to compromise on safety and be a victim, but you do have to take some baby steps forward. Seems there are those that dive in, and others that can't put a toe in the water. I think a lot of us would just like something more in-between, something that will lead to friendship, or even last, or could last, if we work on it.
What say ye "wordsmiths" and "hopeless romantics"????
Sounds an awful lot like dating, period...Online or real life it isn't much different and you're just trying to convince yourself otherwise if you don't agree, honestly. You put in work, kind of like asking for a number at the bar or whatever, once in awhile they don't respond...Arguably the same can be said if you don't get the number at the bar. Internet or real life...Love is nothing more than an illusion. But in terms of how you lot view it, it isn't much different between the mediums. |

Legal/Moral dilemma
Murder is murder.
Killing someone that you *think* might be a danger to others is hardly an applicable defense I would think, regardless of crimes committed by the victim. Lesser charge maybe? 3rd degree murder? Smooth talking attorney and she probably wouldn't see anything outside a county cell...But to let her have a pass because she predicts something will happen is lunacy. |

We can currently "Do better" but it requires a lab setting and constant monitoring, it isn't a realistic means of getting true data. We can read responses from the brain to visual stimuli and interpret it to figure out if there is some sort of neural anomaly present...But it just isn't realistic to attach everyone to a machine and monitor them.
I think that the day we understand how the brain works we quit trying, after-all there wouldn't be much to try for from that point and you would pretty much have everything figured out...I feel that would be greatly detrimental to a society that has continually shown it is directed towards conquering rather than assisting. In the right hands that kind of knowledge would be prolific...But it would just be a matter of time before someone with opposing ideas would get their hands on it, and that would pretty much be the beginning of the end. |

I don't think we can do better, but I also don't think we are doing all that terrible currently.
It would require too many variables working correctly to make much use of the end result. I honestly think that the day we fully understand how the brain works is the day we quit progressing, so I hope it never occurs. |

QUOTE: QUOTE: QUOTE: Do you believe we are basically good and some of us fall to poor behaviors, or that we are inherently bad and some conquer their baser nature to rise to goodness? What are your thoughts? Our nature is to survive, procreate, and conquer. If you are never taught how to survive then you rely on what you learn, which isn't necessarily right. We are just clay hoping to be molded by the right people. Once in awhile the clay has a stain in it, and it cannot always be cleaned. We do the best we can with what we have. do you think it's ever possible to do better than that? Better than what? It is impossible to account for all of the variables present that can cause someone to do something horrific, just as it is impossible to account for all of the variables necessary for a person to grow up a productive member of society. And then there are some people who just want to watch the world burn for the sake of watching it...The Ted Bundy's, Dahmer's, and Dennis Raders' of the world. Better is subjective, but raw percentages we aren't doing too bad. |
