my advice:
1. be nice, be friendly, be honest.
2. join sites, activities, and groups to show others you exist.
(even making friends, can help connect you to someone.)
3. dont flame, spam, or annoy, those dont make dates, just blocks and police records.
4. dont start a date by buying something, those relationships are so lame.

when you start a relationship, you have the chance to be a whole new person, and show that youve matured in your life. dont start out by getting them drunk or buying them food like theyre an animal you want to make a pet. Thats only going to show you have a hard time having fun and entertaining. Not that you shouldnt pay for things while youre out, but dont make the purchase the main theme.

I have friends from 2003 from other countries.
we still play the same mmorpg's and talk at least 3 times a week. BFFL but theyre all guys, which is ok. Just bad luck

I know of a few, from other sites, but the only one Ive ever actually used was:

'Hi, Im [insert name here], but you can call me later.'

Its something that I can say easily without giggling or blushing so it sounds right. Most of the other ones make me want to laugh after I say it, and it ruins the effect.
