QUOTE: I can't speak for anyone but it probably has something to do with the onslaught of 22 year old scantily clad ladies with there yahoo messenger id across their pictures that showed up today. That's pretty much it, newarkjw. It only comes into play when an account has a high level of email activity. In other words, if you're sending out emails relatively rapidly, you will be prompted to enter the characters from the CAPTCHA image before proceeding. Thanks for working with us on these new security measures, guys. |

It probably would not be a bug on a new account, correct.

Yeah, it's as I suspected. That user name is of the general form that these scammers employed. Sorry for the confusion, but those were scam emails.

You do not have to pay in order to see incoming messages, Kevin52403.
As for these phantom emails, I am pretty sure that they are the result of this situation: http://mingle2.com/topic/show/255997 We had to delete all for the emails those accounts sent out (for our members' protection), but the email notifications cannot be canceled, obviously. Perhaps I will make a note of that in the posts. |

We'll keep an eye out for such ads that are seen by the general populace, tanyaann. We do try to strike a balance between paying the bills and using tasteful ads.

Okay, I think I understand what you are referring to. Is this an example?

Yeah, this is still affecting a handful of people. I can't guarantee that it will be fixed in the immediate future (we've had little luck so far), so just know that you can always just treat the last account as the last page after you make a decision on it.

Hi, Tribbles. Actually, the email will be delivered (and he/she will be able to read it) if you do this.

QUOTE: QUOTE: QUOTE: would that also explain a minor lag on the site? not so much this very minute, but in the last 24hrs ? my understanding was yes i had a feeling that it was the case... i'm glad you guys are trying to rectify it Kim is correct, yeah. It wasn't necessarily the email load, but the whole thing did play a part in the slowness. |

As some of you have noticed, there have been a large number of spam/scam accounts created on Mingle2 over the last day and a half. This was a sophisticated effort. While trying various tactics to combat it, we simultaneously developed new security measures. We put these measures into place a short while ago, and they look very promising so far.
We are continuing to ban the remaining accounts and delete all mails from them, so you might still see traces of them for a few hours. From this point on, though, we are confident that the threat has been marginalized. We look forward to getting back to the business of making connections, and we appreciate your patience and support. The Mingle2 team p.s., As always, you should never give money to other users or pay/sign up for any services through other users on any social site. |

Hi, TaoistMagus. I did some testing with your account and the Search keys that you noted, but I was not able to duplicate the problem. When I used "I Ching", for example, I got zero accounts in the results. Are you making sure to click the 'Search' button after entering your specific interest in the appropriate text field?

Hi, Entrepreneur35. This is indeed a bug which affects a small percentage of users. That helps you little, of course, so I'm hoping our development team can get to the bottom of it soon. I apologize for the trouble.

Thanks for letting us know, guys. We are working to eradicate them, and hopefully close off this approach in the future.

Hi, chickayoshi. I'm not sure when this will be fixed, unfortunately. There are a small number of accounts also affected, and we have not been able to find the solution. I'll try to get an update.
