I received this e.mail from a friend and wanted to see what other
Canadians thought about it. I for one don't think I agree. I mean I do
understand the we as Canadians have our own culture. But is it not part
of our culture to be open and welcoming to other peoples as well? I mean
I am sure way back before immigrants came to our country there were
people still celebrating different religions and stuff. But that is just
my opinion. What is yours?

=============================================================

Maybe this will hit home to the politicians who just made it okay for
ceremonial swords to be worn to school and who years ago gave permission
for turbans to be worn by certain RCMP officers instead of the normal
attire.

A little blunt and to the point but quite true!!!!!
Will we still be the Country of choice and still be Canada if we
continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other
countries that came to live in Canada because it is the Country of
Choice??????
Think about it!

All we have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS?

I celebrate Christmas...........but because it isn't celebrated by
everyone..............we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has
to be Season's Greetings.

It's not Christmas vacation, it's Winter Break. Isn't it amazing how
this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday?

We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not offend
anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a
problem with that.
This says it all!
This is an editorial written in a Toronto newspaper.
He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please!

IMMIGRANTS,
NOT Canadians
MUST ADAPT.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some
individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11,
We have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Canadians.
However...... the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the
"politically correct! " crowd began complaining about the possibility
that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who
is seeking a better life by coming to Canada . Our population is almost
entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there
are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and
apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of Canada being
a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and
our national identity. As Canadians.......we have our own culture, our
own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has
been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by
millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH/FRENCH , not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese,
Japanese, Russian, or any other language.
Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the
language!
"We Stand On Guard For Thee" is our national motto. This is not some
Christian, right wing, political slogan.. We adopted this motto because
Christian men and women.......on Christian
principles.............founded this nation..... and this is clearly
documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our
schools.
If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the
world as your new home.........because
God is part of our culture.

We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we
really don't care how you did things where you came from.
This is OUR COUNTRY,
our land, and our lifestyle.
But once you are done complaining....... whining...... and
griping....... about our flag.......our pledge...... our national
motto........or our
way of life....I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other
Great Canadian Freedom.......

THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

I'm not about to get on a soapbox, would take too long. However these
same people who ask that we respect their rights have left their country
of birth because of things that were forced on them. They wanted
freedom. Now they impose their culture on the everyday life of others.
Try going to their country and requesting, demanding your religious,
cultural rights. You will wind up in prison, expulsed or dead.
Yes we are multi-cultural. But we have our own culture and history. We
should bend to every demand made of us.

Karma I am agreeing with you. I am starting to think that if they want
to come to OUR country then they need to live our way to some extent.
Why should we go out of our way to change who we are just to make them
happy? Do not get me wrong I am FAR from racists or anything I just feel
or country our rules. Your country your rules.

Thank you for this thread. Multi-cultural is beginning to be "my way"
and not "our way" in many countries. "Our way" as a nationality post is
rejected as liberals and hamanist think a melting pot is the best way.

I am also sick of this melting-pot intellect thinking we all have to
adjust to "their way."

If Canada, America, England and many other countries are so bad then go
back to your country of origin and make things better there, if that is
possible OR embrace your new country of choice and CHANGE to a new
culture of freedom and not opression.

Isn't it written that Jesus stated to his disciples to go out into the
world and speak the new's of his love? Didn't the disciples them self
travel abroad talking to people about his love?

I'm talking to Canadians here, not at the exclusion of my beloved US
neighbors, but the question touches on the canadian multi-cultural
concept of our nation.

An overwhelming majority of Canadians applauded Trudeau, and still hold
him as some sort of Demi-God. He's is the architect of the 'Charter of
Individual Rights and Freedoms' !!!

Do you read respsibilities in there?!?!? NO!!! Just rights!

None of us Canadians, except for THE WHOLE Province of Québec, STOOD
UP TO SAY: '... HOLD ON ONE MINUTE HERE P.E.T!!! What are our
responsibilities as Canadians, EXISTING AND FUTURE?!?!?

New arriving Canadians are just milking this incomplete political mess
for what it is???

I don't blame THEM!!! I blame all of us whom were asleep at the switch
when Demi-God Trudeau performed is EGO trip on our the backs of all
Canadians!!!

It's still time to wake-up!!! But the target should be our politicians
and and the house of commons, not the new Canadians whom act
respectfully within our current 'individuial rights smorgasborg' of a
politcal and legal system!!!

So please if we want to keep enjoying the 'all rights - no
responsibility' system for YOURSELF, then we must accept that others
will too. ... If we don't to stop scratching the blister, at least we
shouldn't complain about the bleeding'.

Uhmmm
Woww this is kinda..
Okay.

When I came here I had to learn english. And yes I'm forced to take a
foreign language to graduate, but I wouldn't take my anger or whatever
so far as to write or even say anything like this.
I don't have any problem with the people what come here for better
lives, isn't that what the colonists came over here, and killed almost
all the indians (at a later time, but whatever) for?
I think people should still keep their own cultures when they come to
America. It shows their strength and how proud they are of it.
But I also think that we (unknowingly, or not) change people to what is
now, "American Culture", disregarding theirs. Like... "you should do
this... and this... or be excluded from certain activities, etc."

Way to go 'erinestrella',

What you state in your message, reminds me this old concept of

'... Living and growing TOGETHER, with ALL fellow human beings!!!

We're all the same (human beings), only to the extent where we open
ourselves to the differences of others.

Unfortunately, for too many people, It seems that the 'difference' I
might represent for you, or the 'difference' you might represent for me,
is seen as a THREAT, instead of the GIFT that it really is.

The only condition of success here, is a mutual commitment from both the
'already here' and 'newly arrived' citizens, to welcome and integrate
differences with dignity and respect, rather than resorting to the
primitive xenophobic reflex of imposing one's ways on the other, based
on whatever RIGHTS one cowardly hides behind.

The real challenge of our modern societies, ISN'T to remain the same, or
hang on to the past. There is no future hanging on to the past!!!

As Americans innondate other nations with their 'consumerism'
steam-roller, and change the very face of those nations, people and
culture of other nations will migrate, and WILL alter and change the
face of America. That is an inescapable fact of life TODAY, AND THAT IS
GOOD!!!

The sooner we all respectfully, and reponsibly accept and adhere to that
fact of life, with open-mindedness and enthusiasm...
... the sooner will we all have a say in the building blocks of this
extraordinary 'global village' which is growing faster than anyone can
imagine.

Keep on shining 'erinestrella' !!!
