Has everyone forgotten that the reason we have tamper-resistant
caps/lids/foil on food is because of the cyanide-laced Tylenol in the
Chicago area in 1982.

i think this pet food thing is going on before the cans and bottles have
been sealed at the factoy so it wont make a bit of difference... but yes
it is a good idea they came up with back then.

Gradually stop eating packaged and canned foods. I buy a LOT of fresh
foods instead and prepare them myself. Aside from everything else, it is
much healthier and YOU WILL LIVE LONGER.

When fresh foods go on sale, I purchase a lot, blanch or boil and freeze
them and include a purchase date and freeze date on the bags or
containers. I don't have a lot of choices as I have to eat this way for
my own health and well-being and the health of my charge.

I used to have a very large garden where I grew most of our vegetables
and froze many but my own health issues have negated that over the
years.

I suppose that might feel like a step backwards in time, but the food is
better, better for you and you have complete control over the food
contents. I always liked that part of it too.

Have a great day all!

The latest in the pet food poisoning is that the wheat gluten that was
found to contain the rat poison came from a processor in China where
this type of poison is commonly used for pest control. Investigators
don't think it was sabotage, just shoddy handling.
As for our food, the safest bet is to cook the hell out of everything.
If you have your own garden, just remember, all it takes is for an
infected racoon or something nosing around in the cabbage. As for
poison, just hope for the best.

And next time I have to use a chain saw to get into a package of any
food, I won't complain.

Hiya Sushi - I agree that plenty can happen in our own gardens but what
I mean is that there are no preserving additives, colors or bulk
enhancers.

It seems that however that happened, why were we getting wheat gluten
from China? Cheaper? or what...

Cheaper would be my guess. Noone has said. Oh and I can see why food
packages are hard to get into, but why do I have to get the meat cleaver
to open the package that contains my brand new eyelash curler?

Olive recalled over botulism fear. They were sold here in some provinces
but it doesn't mention the States. The olives were imported from Italy.
