He is going to fill a proper form called "baggage report" and you must give you adress and phone number to locate you. After this, he will assign a file number which have five digits for example if you are traveling with US AIRWAYS YOUR FILE NUMBER MUST BE IN THE FOLLOWING WAY: US-10032. THE FIRST TWO LETTERS IDENTIFY THE AIRLINE AND THE OTHER IS THE FILE WHICH HAS FIVE DIGITS, SO IF YOU GO TO CLAIM YOUR BAG DON'T FORGET TO GIVE THIS INFORMATION TO THE AGENT AND THEY WILL SEE IT IN THE SYSTEM.

US-123456 US AIRWAYS
AA-654321 AMERICAN AIRLINES
DL-987678 DELTA AIRLINES

AND SO ON, REMEMBER YOU MUST HAVE YOUR PAPERS ON YOUR HANDS ALL THE TIME.

when my bag was lost (the 2nd time) the agent told me to go to each turnstile in the airport and look for it myself. and it was toronto pearson which isn't exactly a small airport.
