Allow me to ask your opinion.
Who do you like better? And why?
I will give a rundown list after a few posts.
Of course this is not necessaryly including the fact that Bill
leagueally stole Steves' Desingers ideas (os code) to make windows.

According to my information (as all on this post), The first deal that
Bill made with IBM for a gui, was a great turning point in the history
of software for the computer.

This question should be in the politics catagory. Personally, I don't
like either one of them. If they got on the same subway car as I was on
I would switch cars. Or possibly leave the train entirely.

I know very little about computers, just the very basics. I don't care
for either one of them though.

Here's another vote for "dislike them both." But I'm especially
displeased by the way people talk positively about Gate's so-called
"philanthropy".

I think that if a person employs over 10,000 people in another country
they should have to live in that country. Ship Gates off to where ever
the most employees he has are from. Be sure he only has access to the
average amount of income of a person there that he employs.

Bet that would change his outlook. Might even kill a bit ogf that greed
in him as well when he does not have access to his 5k dollar suits or
even running water that is suitable for drinking.

Gee he might be suprized to find he cannot afford a pc that meets his
min system requirements. Never know he might switch to linux as his
desktop environment of choice when he sees it is leaner and meaner then
anything he can produce.

I am sorry all I just hate greed of that magnitude.

Don't forget he will need to have the same level of knowlege as those
people he is paying a swell and I bet he does not even know one
programming language his people write. Sounds to me like he would not
hire himself if he saw his own resume.

do i detect a tad bit of jealousy here?? lol

Jealousy? No.

I and other's who have commented simply admire people like Mark
Shuttleworth - and he has more money than all of us combined could every
hope to have. Our contempt is not due to Gates having money and us not
- its what he's -done- to get his money, and the effect it has had on
the rest of the world.

I would not want their kind of money personally. I have an issue with
the idea that Bill is fighting to have all his foreign employees who
know more about compter programming then he would ever hope to have
being paid less then what they would here in the USA for technical work.
So therefore what he is trying to do is get them all citizenship here in
the USA to move them here at their same rate of pay.

If he is sucessful in this venture it will literally crush the
programming and networking wages here in the USA.

I also have issues with a company who has currently the most popular
browser while not by much which is freely distributed. At the same time
refusing to make it compliant with the latest international standards
and guidelines and capable of supporting the mime type of
application-xml. Then after teh W3C stated for several years they were
not going to release another version of HTML as it was marked to be
replaced by XHTML which uses the above metioned mime type. He put his
senior programmer for development into the W3C to re-write HTML again.
This action is not a step into the future it is actually a step back.
FireFox will render a proper application-xml page where IE will render
it only as text/html.

The idea of being able to have the pages parsed as XML will allow
computer to computer communications and websites to act more like
programs and applications on your local computer.

I also have issuse with him investing so heavily into a particular
university in this country that is amoung the ivy league as well as
wikipedia the worlds largest wiki to control both the type of education
a person can get as well as how teh english language and encyclopedia
are writen to have a Microsoft answer to the world.

That is censorship at an evil level in my opinion.

I dont see stanford university listed there at all or wikipedia for that
matter. I do know for a fact unter the main campus building there they
house the servers for both which are owned by Microsoft.

I also know that because of the relationship Microsoft has with owning
wikipedia they are rewiting the largest encyclopedia on the web and have
a crew of people doing it in the microsoft viewpoint.

Take it how you like I still do not like people like that. they are too
self-centered. I also find it more then a little upsetting to know that
a person could be more knowledgeable then their prospective employer on
a subject and still not qualify to fill out an application for a job.

The idea of that type of thinking and the closed mindedness to worldwide
standards because of they hold the browser market share for now is
reduculas. That is how they lost the market on the web servers world
wide in the past but they do not see that either. Microsoft has only
about 15-20% of the market of web servers on the planet. The majority or
the web people know that MS is not the way to go compared to apache for
a web server environment. Why do you think the market is not flooded
with .net developers. Reason it is not is because of the open source
movement which is leaner and more effecient as well as free to the
public. MySQL is a free download but Microsoft SQL is 25,000 dollars per
processor license. Most database servers are multi processor units with
between 2-6 processors each. However there are larger servers with over
100 processors in them as well.
