HECK no ya can't! I met somebody 2 years ago (Memphis TN) come June and everything he said HE WAS he WASN'T and everything HE said HE WASN'T, HE WAS! ... go figure... I have been on several dates since then (I will only date LOCALLY) and though I have met some really nice guys, NOT anybody that has KNOCKED my socks off...

It depends on how long you have spoken to this person on line. I talked to my current boyfriend on line for a great length of time and we got to know each other very well. I talk to Kojack and I think he knows me down to a T. He is very good at reading and listening to people. He remembers everything.

Inflection is definitely hard to ascertain via internet, but if you find someone, that you can follow their wave length and they can follow yours, its not quite as hard. smile2 waving

I think it is very difficult to get to know the whole, real person from online. You may get to know them somewhat over years and if you observe and see their interactions with many different people over time that way. But know them? Really know them? No. Of course not. Many of us don't get to "know" our real life acquaintances and friends for months or years. It is a question of transparency and being genuine.

Personality?

An astute person can get a sense, of another... the way they use language to express themselves, especially in such a one dimensional medium...

also, the more one reads another's posts, topics they are drawn to... patterns of behaviours... all show, and help construct a 'picture' of who this person may be.

As to judging another?

Hmmm... in jest I will pay out on anyone who speaks in absolutes, and shows no flexibility in their thinking... in australia, that would be called sh*t stirring..

Also, colloquialisms get lost at times... we have different terms, and expressions that get lost on some cultures, especially the US...

and I find it is a culture quick to offend... perhaps we have thicker skins...

most who know of me, through these forums over the past few years know I jest.... at times quite harshly... but the intent is to tease.

I don't play 'nice'... it's such a mediocre insipid word.
