Communication...

Requires understanding... With our world the way it has become, understanding is an imperative survival trait for the future of mankind.

I once saw a small rug that had been hand made. There was a symbol on it that was fascinating to me yet I would not approach it. To my English speaking eyes it said evil… and I could not take my eyes off of it… there was a power in it that was overwhelming.

The symbol was from the time of Persia so I checked (There was no internet in my youth had to read books to find it).

In ancient Arabic that symbol speaks ‘god is most glorious’ or by meaning ‘god is greater than all things’.

Yep… totally agree… Certainly was greater than the barrier of language separating me from the person that made the rug.

Evolving might not be just change in physical from… it might also include change in the way we think.

Interesting how an initial reaction can make ya dig deeper. I wonder how many believe in "curiosity killed the cat" and back off because they don't know the rest - "satisfaction brought him back".

slaphead (wonders off shaking head and mumbling)..............

P.S. I believe you found part of the "Tower of Babel" answer

Evolution is certainly more then just the genes, its more then just DNA.

Ideas that effect behavior that effects survival are then also selected against.

Nature is a curious thing, there are tiers that we cannot see the next step of until we have found the edges of the tier we are on now . . .

Is communication a survival trait?

I think that it most definitely is if you accept that survival is not an "island" thing. That is, we don't just survive as ourselves, independent of everything else in the univers. We survive in symbiosis with virtually everything else in the universe.

Does "having a strong, close, loving family" fall within the definition of "surviving"? Does "living in a free society" fall within the definition of "surviving"? Communication is critical in both those areas. Without it, those things would not exist.

Personally, the I consider the ability to communicate to be the single most important survival trait any living thing can have. (Photosynthesis fits just about any comprehensive definition of "communication" one could come up with.)

In the most philosophical terms, one could say that communication is what this whole universe is all about.

The more we move away from propaganda news, and television...

the more we move towards silence...the more communication will return to it's authenticity.

Body language, posturing, gesturing, (in it's subtlest forms) will be much more useful.

The ability to 'hear' anothers thoughts... and communications, will return also.

Once the bombardment of FALSE communication lessens, authenticity shall return.

We have six senses, but have dulled five of them with the bombardment of white noise.
