If you think that the outrageous attempt to snatch someones money by un-constitutional means is the first time congress has done this...

Think again.

Try being a smoker.

Congress has forced taxes upon us that are way out of line with any other product taxed by the government.

And they did it because some of you think smokers are second class citizens... and so jumped on the band wagon with pitchforks held high.

HOW LONG BEFORE THEY SLAP SUCH OUTRAGEOUS TAXES ON YOU IN AN AREA WHERE THEY CAN GET PUBLIC OUTCRY AGAINST YOU.

a pack of smokes costs roughly 40% LESS then what we pay for it...

THE REST IS ALL TAX. (States saw the fed get away with it so they also tac a bit on)

There's plenty of it to go around. Oregon taxes the income of non-residents. Oregon continually practices double taxation by taxing the refunds received from the filing of last years income taxes.

And then there was the bailout of AIG, and part of that money used to fund corporations overseas. I don't know about you, but I fail to see how foreign corporations receiving tax money from US citizens is any kind of representation of us at all...

The mere ability to vote does not confer representation by the government.

I disagree. In fact, there is plenty of legislation passed by our "representatives" that is never put up for a vote by the populace. By voting them in office, we trust them to represent us while they are in office. They don't always do that. Obviously.

and isnt amazing how they portray this descrimination by saying the money will go to children in order to gain support..what people dont understand is if you dont stop this kind of action from the start it wont be long until its happening to them ..
..and i imagine there will be more crimes commited to obtain these cigarettes and then they too will be sold on shady street corners...

if the government wants money they should look into whether the politicians have PAID THEIR TAXES...smokin

There are members in congress who smoke. They just happen to be a minority.

The original saying, Taxation without Representation, goes back to colonial times. At that time it was truth. Colonial Americans had no say in their leadership.

And in some cases today, neither do we.

Voting does not matter.

AIG did not need the bail out. This was a payment to foreign banks, and I believe there is going to be a lot more to follow, if we want to have both, the devaluation of dollar and the continuation of credit.

Wiley look at what you wrote,

By voting them in office, we trust them to represent us while they are in office.

?????????
If they dont then we also have the opputunity to remove their representative power.

Thus we do have Representation. People need to study the issues their represenatives support, and quit voting them in just because theirs is the only name they recognize on the ballot!

If they dont vote at all, then IMO they lose all right to betch.

Not really. The only time we have an opportunity is at election time. Other than that, it's up to our other elected officials to seek impeachment to remove someone from office.

Considering that 90% of elected politicians change their positions once they get elected, I'd say that studying the issues they claim to represent is pretty moot. Better to look at their entire career and their voting history if available.

If they dont vote at all, then IMO they lose all right to betch.

Great. So where's the representation for those who vote third party? They voted so they have a right to betch, right?

We have a system of politics where the majority rules.
It sucks when your wishes are those of the minority, but that doesn't mean you are without representation, or that the outcome on certain issues are unfair either.

maybe the government should have thought about raising the price of cigarettes before they stole my home equity ..wheres my check for that ..their lack of oversight has already cost everyone enough,so where the phuck is my check..i'm beginning to think that there is a conspiracy to bankrupt the U.S ..and its being done from within..

the only reason their raising taxes on cigarettes is because theyve already drained all other means of getting our money..WAKE UP PEOPLE..

..and this is only the beginning wait til they start peeling back the onion ..consumer confidence will gain an all time low..

No we don't. This is a republic, not a democracy. The minority clearly rules in some areas via the court system if nowhere else.

And if your wishes are those of the majority and they are still overturned? What then?

I didnt say that!
I often vote for third party candidates as well. I see myself voting more that way in the future, as I will never vote for another Republican and am Independent. I also figure I will be in the minority many times until more Americans see that the Rep party is corrupt to the core and they become the third party!

Our government does pretty much what it wants, despite their constituents. Sadly most people buy the BS peddled at them and let it go then turn around and vote these jackasses back in office again.

The point at the foundation of America was, that the property and rights can not be voted away.

And yes, this isn't supposed to be a democracy (mob rule), this supposed to be a republic.
