Sammy da Cat was a pet of one of my clients. He was a cool cat, so cool that we all ignored the fact that his real name was Samantha, and made him an honorary boy, so that he could join the club (I don't make the rules, I just enforce them). The Vet had to put him down on Saturday, while I was there. The clients cleaning lady and her husband were going to bury Sammy and I volunteered to help, as her husband is a 70-something Korean Conflict veteran and looks like he can barely walk. Mr. Korea picked a nice spot in the side yard between the pool and a fairly large sticker bush.

As I was digging the grave, during this sad and solemn occasion, Mr. Korea was picking up dirt balls, which for some reason he referred to as rocks. He then began a very profane and loud verbal confrontation with said sticker bush. As I looked up from my work to tell him to knock it off, I saw him pick up an axe and go after the bush. After several devastating blows to the air surrounding the bush and breathing heavily, he started screaming for me to hit it from the other side with my shovel. I was hoping that he had already spent all of his energy and anger over Sammys passing, but no. With eyes bulging, veins popping out in his neck and spittle flying from his mouth, he made a full-on bonzai attack into the sticker bush. Within seconds, he literally same flying out backwards and landed straight on his butt, rolling around vainly trying to get up. I gave him a long 10 count silently and then helped him up and sent him to find his wife.

And so my memories of Sammy da Cat will always be linked with an axe wielding lunatic.

Prolly, I asked his wife if he was okay and she said he often does not know who she is, so it is prolly dementia.

Well at least Sammie had a memorable send off.

Better than most cats get.
