The USA is seen as an arrogant bully. This was 1970, I'm sure it is just as bad now that we are causing collateral damage with our drone strikes. Some parts of the world think we are the terrorists.

People will treat you nicer in other countries if you try and speak their language.

getting dumps of 5+ feet of snow is not normal for most of the world.

Kangaroos have very large claws.

Electrical outlets in New Zealand and Australia have on/off switches. I never thought about it before, but everyone always asks "if you don't have them in Canada, what happens if you put something in the socket?" Well, everyone around gets a laugh. that's what happens.

Accepting new cultures and living in small communities is the best way to learn about a new place.

Mostly though, Try everything at least once. When travelling, be like the "Yes Man". Just have a go at whatever comes your way!

It's not about the places that you see but the people that you meet along the way. Be open to meeting people and experiencing new things.

Once you're in said country, go get drunk first at a bar/club, unpack things later. A good knees-up isn't always a bad thing. I can control my drink :P

Travel feeds the mind and soul.

Not really.
It creates memories within your brain and heart but the mind and soul cannot be fed. whoa
