Syria: Cameron and Obama move west closer to intervention

British prime minister and US president agree that alleged chemical attack 'requires a response'


David Cameron and Barack Obama moved the west closer to military intervention in Syria on Saturday as they agreed that last week's alleged chemical weapon attacks by the Assad regime had taken the crisis into a new phase that merited a "serious response".

In a phone call that lasted 40 minutes, the two leaders are understood to have concluded that the regime of Bashar al-Assad was almost certainly responsible for the assault that is believed to have killed as many as 1,400 people in Damascus in the middle of last week. Cameron was speaking from his holiday in Cornwall.

The prime minister and US president said time was running out for Assad to allow UN weapons inspectors into the areas where the attack took place. Government sources said the two leaders agreed that all options should be kept open, both to end the suffering of the Syrian people and to make clear that the west could not stand by as chemical weapons were used on innocent civilians.

A spokesman for No 10 said: "The prime minister and President Obama are both gravely concerned by the attack that took place in Damascus on Wednesday and the increasing signs that this was a significant chemical weapons attack carried out by the Syrian regime against its own people. The UN security council has called for immediate access for UN investigators on the ground in Damascus. The fact that President Assad has failed to co-operate with the UN suggests that the regime has something to hide.

"They reiterated that significant use of chemical weapons would merit a serious response from the international community and both have tasked officials to examine all the options. They agreed that it is vital that the world upholds the prohibition on the use of chemical weapons and deters further outrages. They agreed to keep in close contact on the issue."

All's we need to do is enforce an no fly zone and take out the Chemical weapons stockpiles and delivery systems then get out.

All we need to do is stay the hell out and let them have their own revolution, same with Egypt!

When in doubt, it's always best to ask "How would I feel if anyone came to impose themselves on America?"

Problem here is, both sides are evil! You have Assad, who while he protects christians and non-believers, is not a nice guy at all one one hand, or the Egytian army, and Al Qaeda or the muslim brotherhood on the other..... this is not a bees nest we want to shake a stick at!

Unless they try to bring their troubles to our streets, we have no right to fight or bomb theirs!

And I'm not talking about all the fake terror threats the FBI and NSA are trying to convince anybody the thwarted. They can't find their own a$$e$ with both hands anymore! Most of the terror plots they "discover" are them entraping some group of pissed of foreign kids by offering them large sums of cash, fake (perhaps real at times....like Boston) explosives, and then arresting and killing them before the truth can come out it is nothing but a sting operation they spearheaded. Like Obozo and Holder did with fast and furious to try to get gun laws passed!

Hasn't that Dolt in the WH learned anything from Tunisia,Libya and Egypt?

Syria strike due in days, West tells opposition - sources

Western powers have told the Syrian opposition to expect a strike against President Bashar al-Assad's forces within days, according to sources who attended a meeting between envoys and the Syrian National Coalition in Istanbul.

This will be one of the few times you will hear me say this. I actually feel for Obama on this. No decision is a good decision. On the one hand if you don't act millions will probably die and Chem weapons will fall into the hand of Extremists who WILL use them on US targets.

If he does act he will have the anti war and military loons and Paultards who want American to be defenseless and a target all over him.

It's not a decision I would want to make, but it can be done without troops on the ground. We can take out their chem weapons and enforce a no fly zone by air and drone and pull out.

Yes he did, he helped put his Muslim extremist buddies into power and even hosted them at the White House.

Until AQ, Taliban and Muslim Brotherhood extremists get their hand on chemical weapons. You are a smart guy even though we RARELY agree but what do you think the those terrorists will do if they get a Chem weapon or WMD? They will use it and more then likely on us.

Honestly, I don't think it's lack of brains but the fact they are to busy just lining their pockets and jerking each other off and taking tax payer funded vacations to care and they don't want to disrupt that or take away the silver spoon.
