Hi There, You can go on to the Microsoft.com Official Website and download a free version of their Anti Virus called Microsoft Essentials Anti-Virus-A very good Anti-Virus and a very easy program to use. Just follow the Prompts to activate, run and download it properly. Must have Windows XP Service Pak III or Windows 7 or Windows 8 to activate it. I hope this helps -Faithful Christian Man-Be Blessed!

Zone Alarm is a good choice. It include an excellent firewall. You do get occasional requests to upgrade to a paid for version but it is't even weekly.

I would not recommend MS for either anti-virus or fire wall. We used both at work. I used Zone Alarm. Never got a virus, worm, trojan etc. Had problems with emails being rejected that I had sent my self from my yahoo account as being a possible hazard. They rejected pictures and then let through some bad stuff.

McAfee's reputation is self promoted. Had a Laptop with McAfee and stopped at a Motel in Laredo headed for NC. Used their wireless and got a virus. So bad I had to completely remove McAfee and loaded Zone Alarm to remove the infected file and protect.

Some companies reps are from their own PR and not the real world. If you want to pay I would recommend Norton.

I have been using Avast (free) for over 4 years. It is working well for me. I also use the free version of Malwarebytes to scan for problems occasionally.

Linux was invented on the Amiga in1987
It shows by your admittance you no nothing of Amiga. They don't use
Linux. True Linux is better then win, but what isn't.

AVG free was pretty good when I used it. I just use Microsoft security essentials now along with malware bytes and superantispyware.

You'll probably get more out of a script blocker and browser addons like web of trust , ghostery , ad blocker and bit defender traffic light. The script blockers help a lot but they block a lot of webpage functions also. Overall thescript blocker will probably be the most useful though. I have it set up so that the script blocker doesn't work in incognito mode. I have an incognito mode switcher addon so that I can turn on/off the script blocker by pressing the incognito icon.

I also use sandboxie which has a sandboxed webbrowser option and an auto delete feature on closing. By using it I can separate my web browser from my computer and restore the web browser to it's default by closing it (deleting contents).

If you're also worried about general malware, I use a program called Spybot: Search and Destroy (you can download a free version; the company that produces it takes donations), and that clears out things like cookies, some trojans, and temporary internet files.
