I am originally from Canada and now live in the States. So I know both
Health Care systems.

There a few things I miss about Canada. The Health Care is definitely
one of them.

I have had doctors who practice near the border tell me that Americans
would much rather pay THEM to have their children in Canada rather than
to pay the outrageous prices to have them in the States.

What does that tell you?

it is completely crazy. i have full health care through my job and you
would be surprised at what it doesn't cover. it's better than what alot
of people have but you really don't have many options. that is why i
don't go to a doctor unless it is necessary.

well dylux..things have changed mightily in Ontario in the last 10-15
years now...I live in Waterloo Region (Cambridge, Kitchener-Waterloo).
There is, roughly, a total population of 500,000 and 3 hospitals to
service them. The main hospital, located in Kitchener, just had to close
it's emergency room down because of a lack of doctors. I've been in the
emergency with a separated shoulder and waited 15 hours before anyone
beyond triage looked at it...and in that wait, 2 ppl actually died
waiting. They have only 1 doctor working the emerg, and if a trauma case
comes in..the rest of the ppl there are screwed.
There is a saying that goes, "You get what you pay for".
It is true at one time, our health care system was the envy of the
world, with the possible exceptions of Sweden and Norway.
But now, it has been hacked to death for 10 years by our previous
Minister of Finance. This same man who claimed he could save and solve
the health care crisis in Canadastan, especially Ontario, while
campaigning to be Prime Minister.
The same man who was in charge of the purse strings when the country's
biggest financial scandal ever, took place. Over 1 billion dollars was
wantonly handed out to Quebec advertising firms to promote Quebec NOT
separating from Canadastan. It was nothin more than a billion dollar
pork barrel of taxpayer funds.
Even provicially things are fucked..the previous provincial gov't(PC's)
promised major funding to the hospital where I live, especially cuz it
needed a new roof and new boilers. BUT, the Liberals won the last
provincial election, but we elected a PC as our MPP so all of a sudden,
the promised(and very necessary) funding was held back. This funding
would have also allowed the hospital to have more doctors on staff.
Quite frankly dylux, once I'm outta here and in the US, the only thing
I'm gonna miss about Canadastan is the high potency pot and the gov'ts
lenient stand on it.
Gun violence in Canadastan has escalated exponentially over the years
so it's not like it's much safer up here anymore either.

One of the reasons the health care system is so mess up and expensive
here is we the people have let it get out of hand. I have a freind who
just recently had open heart sugery and he went to South america for it,
because even though his insurance would not cover it down there, it was
cheaper than the 20% copay here. He got good care and the same sugery
down there for what a heart surgerns office call is here. Our health
care system has become about dollars and not helping the sick. An I know
what your about to say, well machines that cost millions has to be paid
for. This is true, but why does a company charge a US healthcare
provider a million dollars for a machine and seell the same machine in
another country for less than 100,000 dollars, somebody is getting rich
and somebody is getting screwed, you guess who!!! An one more little
detail, this new deal with Wal-Mart lowering the price to $4.00 for a
perscription, just wait till they have forced all the little Mom and Pop
pharmcerys out of business and see how long it stays that way. An
another WM note, for those of you who did not know, W-M asked the US
goverment to ket it assume national health care, so if you didin't buy
it at W-M then you would not getit, the goverment has postponed the
decision till 08. Watch out here they come with a euthanasia based on
age and health.
