My cat, Buttboy, was the world's friendliest cat. He loved everyone instantly.

Two nights ago, I heard a loud ruckus nearby in the middle of the night but didn't associate it with anything. It sounded like a pack of wild dogs in a fight with something.

I never saw Buttboy again!sad

I heard the dogs again about a half mile across a field. I thought about taking a gun over there and "thinning the herd" a bit.pitchfork

Thanks. The cat was so loveable it probably didn't know it was in danger until too late! I should have investigated the noise when I heard it.

OMG, poor baby :-(

My sister and her huge 4 malamute dogs stayed for a visit.
She did not keep them on a leash and one mauled a cat.
She offered to put it to sleep.

I told her I would put HER to sleep if she came back with them.

Thats terrible I have a dog and I would never let him run with packs or let him attack anything , proper training corrects this.I live in the country and my neighbor just had to put his two dogs that run free down because they killed someones pet also.I don't understand why people do this?My pet is part of the family and I feel your pain regarding his passing. I would make sure that those dogs did in fact kill your pet and if they did revenge would be on my agenda you could count on it!!!!

There are usually packs of coyotes around at any given time but they make characteristic yelping and howling noises. These dogs don't sound like that. They sound like dogs. There haven't ventured far from here.

I am due for a little target practice anyway.

dogs or coyotes? when cats start disappearing its usually coyotes in my experiance anyways.

sorry for your loss

the yipping or yelps are usually calls to find out where each memeber is. when they hunt they dont make a sound.

Thanks. The cat was so loveable it probably didn't know it was in danger until too late! I should have investigated the noise when I heard it.

My friend had a cat who went missing for months, can't remember exactly how long.
Then all of a sudden the cat turned up on the doorstep.
I'm wondering if your cat ran off because he was frightened and may be he is too scared to come back just yet.
I hope he does turn up for you.

Thanks for the positive thoughts, but he was a fixture around here. I think if he was coming back he would have by now.

Pardon me for asking, but why is it considered acceptable to let one's cat run wild outside of one's property but not acceptable to allow one's dog do the same thing?

Please keep us posted. I'm not sure why but I have a positive vibe that he will show up.

He never left the property and cat's don't generally eat other people's pets.
