I once met a girl who said to have had so many hurts from her previous relationships and therefore only wanted a short-term relationship with me.

Will shortening the length of dating period be the most effective measure to curtail the chances of getting hurt(which I suppose is probably related to the degree of emotional connection)?

Or other elements such as lowering expectations(and letting each other know about it), the extent of physical contacts, etc?

I'm still a bit muddled on this issue..
