peek through
the window of inhalation

my eyes flutter
the tremors want to rise
come sunrise
covering us with its true nature
you didn't run away
you're still here
blinking a few times before adjusting
my eyes stare
they pierce yours
to the reality of now
the moment of somehow
knowing i was enough
and your heart could love

that you weren't afraid to
truly see me
in all extremes
of timeless intensity
with one look it goes away
simply
i can touch you and
i won't be dreaming
instead of
waking to empty wishes
of wanting, craving

life is simple
life is quiet
lost in a symphony
of your hand
fervently tracing motions on my back
composing a song
the lyrics with your fingertips
the melody with your breathing
a note never wrong

and i couldn't think at all
i stopped
for in that scene
i would fall harder, stronger
as you promised forever
with your eyes
no pretense, no disguise
just a realization
of your heart
how deep you are
so protective
trusting

only i know
just can't look away
when all i see
is hope
staring my way
