Fortunately for those who are socially shy, inept or lack the needed courage to meet one on one can take an assertiveness class and some social skills classes to learn how to self introduce and be comfortable interacting with all and sundry. The inability to master these social skills puts most social relations in the hands of others rather than within oneself where the power is best needed and utilized. For example not being able to meet quickly and meet a person often leads to a false expectation of the other person as no one has met or been seen in terms of their chemistry and without chemistry there is only relegated friendship and wasted time. To create a narrative that demonstrates a modicum of substance will suffice to gain another persons attention if they are so inclined. The sooner people meet the greater the chance of a possible match as chemistry often trumps other traits..

I respect a man who comes up to me other than some dude approaching me on the Internet. .....

Myself I can talk to anyone... And would rather it be in person... I go out to eat by myself all the time... I always sit at the bar due to there you can always find someone to talk to... You just never know what might happen..

Even added a new place to eat for a change of people...bigsmile

Hey everyone,
It occurred to me that we all talk a good one and offer advice on how to meet people and talk to people (the blind leading the blind?),
but what would you really do if someone came up to you and tried to start a conversation? Would you shrug them off and go about your business? Talk and get to know them? Try to be polite and invent an excuse to leave?

I'm with nascar on this I'm a real talker, I can talk to someone I like but the minute I know he likes me my shyness kicks in and I clam up. But then once he gets me talking watch out

Me too, to a point. I deal with strangers on a daily basis due to my job, but I am in a business environment - if I get hit on I diplomatically get out of the situation. Strangers approach me in public transport but they are usually no threat - which I guess is the main thing for me - if I feel as though my space is being invaded I retreat - but they are usually harmless, lonely folk. But if a single, guy that I am attracted to came up to me and started talking, I know me.....I get tongue tied, and gawk or try and think of reasons why he may be talking to me......then I do a Houdini and disappear. ohwell
