This is such a weird medium. I'm not really interested in "hooking up".

It's great when someone is interested in you for what you have to say!!!!

How much do you either edit yourself, or "let it rip"? How do you gage? Do you censor yourself out of respect? Is that the "real" you?

Pick a question.....and Mods, just hangin out. Move this to "Relationships"........or not.

I never let it rip anymore (we call it the moderator muffler)
so everything I censor. Sometimes I can't print it at all :-)

But I get it off my chest then delete it.

That's gotta suck! Ever wish you were a pedestrian.....and either you let it rip or (someone else) decided.

Nevermind.....you're not gonna answer that....it would be improper.

Why can't you just be yourself stop worrying about censorship sometimes we are polite and respectful other times we just let rip as long as we do it with respect for others we are fine. How else are others going to know what we are really like. flowers think

I have to admit that I have an evil twin when I am at work they know who is present if I am smiling it is me, no smile the evil twin is lurking I warn them to keep her tucked under her rock and don't let her out, they think it is great until she escapes.pitchfork

What does propriety REALLY mean?

it depends. if I'm intimidated by the person there is a lot of editing/eager to please/ stressed to impress at 1st. the more time I spend with someone and become more comfortable the more inclined I am to let er rip (sbd's included). indifferent

sometimes i put this period here to save an opportune spot on a thread, then i have 59 minutes to put anything i want in here...it can be respectful, clever, funny or nasty, whatever i want it to be....i always know what i'm gonna say before i say it....and its never to late to change it....bahahahah..laugh

now, i ask you is that proper ???

the tell-tale " Edited By" note....
.......................>> ( 2nd edit ) start the clock over....i could have more later..
.......................>> ( 3rd edit ) 6 more minutes ....some dirty words, perhaps..

I do edit my thoughts before putting them in text.
Often with humor, I just let rip whatever comes to mind.
But I try to be respectful.
My tongue can cut down trees, if I unleash it without thinking.

I think of propriety as that which is "deemed" normal or appropriate by a (any) group of people...In this medium, it would be group thinking on what is or is not an acceptable post...How a person chooses to express themselves to "the group" can determine how, where and even if they fit in...Propriety is ALL about expression and interpretation...When expression is unclear, it is left open to interpretation...When it is done without giving thought to surrounding circumstances, problems can occur...For me, the bigger question is not what is socially correct behavior, it is who decides and why...Since appropriateness to purpose or circumstance is often subjective, I think it is best to pause and give consideration BEFORE "letting it rip" ....I also think that is what Bashawaving was getting at when she asked the question, "What does propriety REALLY mean?"...

I censor more than forgien governments. But I rarely have harsh things to say and typically censor to avoid getting extremely personal in the forums.
