Very interesting.
Think they have 2-seaters and/or some luggage space for groceries?

The Elio is considered a vertical 1+1. That means the driver sits in front of the passenger. The Smart car is different because it has a standard seating arrangement. Since I am an owner of a Smart Car Convertible, I can speak from experience. The Smart is deceptively small, but isn't small on the inside. The cars are safe, and can be had cheap on the used car market. However, the Smart Car has several fundamental flaws, with the worst being that clunky 5 speed Auto Manual Trans that feels like monkey is being click trained to shift. Another flaw is the ride, hard. Lastly, it isn't cheap to fix, nor easy to find parts for. The Elio is cheap, and the gas mileage is great. However, there are downsides. Number one - You need a motorcycle license in most states to drive it. Number two - It hasn't made production yet, so most details aren't available yet about specs, safety ratings, or any packages that could up the price. Furthermore, the car has been delayed many times. We will have to wait and see.
