Don't use the internet to get your first date.

Do develop the social skills for in person, face to face, encounters and communication with strangers, before even attempting online dating.

Or are you asking "what are the do's and don'ts on your first date with someone new that you've met on the internet that's different than a first date where you've met them in person or have known them for a while like at work or school?"

Do meet them in a public place during the day.
Do use common sense and social etiquette that you use in your everyday life.
If you have neither common sense or an idea of social etiquette for everyday life, then don't date.
