Party's over? Record voters say they'��re Independents, reject 'D' and 'R'

Record numbers of American voters are rejecting both major political parties - Democrat and Republican. Instead, according to new poll findings, they're registering to vote as Independents in increasing numbers.

Specifically, according to new Gallup findings, the number of self-declared Independents has climbed to a record 43 percent, the highest number since the pollster began tallying such figures back in 1988 - leaving Democrats and Republicans trailing far behind at 30 percent and 26 percent respectively.

op that is certainly understandable with all that is going on in those parties ... will be interesting to see ...once we get closer to President voting time ... I don't remember how that worked... I was once a independent then change to a party... what will they have to do if they are in a party and now want to vote independently... wow ...that might mess up the voting boxes ...

But will still have to vote either D or R because will be the only two choices we will be given.

The joys of a 2 party system and the media they control...and us thru that media.

Hard for a 3rd party candidate to even get air time, and if they do it's usually to blacklist them...... just ask Ron Paul.

No matter what you think of the man or his message it would have been nice if he were allowed to deliver it so people COULD actually make a choice for leadership.

Many may not agree with his views fully...I don't on every issue myself..... but we would be in a much different (if not better) place in the US if they had allowed his voice to be heard.

Funny how they silenced him during the election cycle but are voicing and raising his ides as their own in congress now he's gone

The U.S., is the only nation in the "free world", with such limited political choice.

No, there are all sorts of other parties. Or, did those candidates not get onto your ballot the last couple times? I know in California, I was also given the choice of Independent, American Independent, Communist, Peace & Freedom, Green, Libertarian, etc.. Not saying a vote for those others isn't essentially throwing your vote away. If enough people voted for those other candidates, then it'd send a powerful message.
