shocked No Pop-tarts in Australia? I would have thought they were everywhere, but they must just be big in the U.S. I find it interesting the things we find in our own regions that are very popular in the region, but outside it's not as popular or even known.

rofl I sometimes think that Aus is soooooooo much like the U.S. these days that if we didn't have kangaroos in every yard and koalas in every tree and boomerangs flying all over the place I couldn't tell the difference.

shocked

Australia has also seemed like a very beautiful and amazing place. I've thought about moving there before. I'm not sure anymore though.

I have noticed there's a lot of beautiful women over there and that accent just makes them that much more attractive. :)

Lately I've noticed something strange going on. I've been listening to a lot of sales pitches where marketers use swear words. I've also noticed more swearing in other business situations as well.

It's always been my view that swearing is unprofessional (in most business settings). When I hear them swear or see it in their writing, I get turned off (business wise), despite the fact that swearing doesn't offend me. I just don't see it being appropriate in most business settings.

Is this a new fad? How do you feel when you hear swearing in say commercials or other marketing/business situations?

I haven't notice this at all.

I recently saw and ad on the internet - a large real estate site.
This ad title was " you cannot polish a t**d"

I sent them a message (from the site) to say I thought this had gone beyond the boundaries of a sales pitch. I used to sell R/E myself but have never seen this before.

I don't like it - oh, and I did not get any reply from my message...

UNprofessional

huh

I agree.

I also feel that the new Pop-Tart commercial where the pop-tart says "aw jam it!" is very inappropriate, as their target audience is children.

Yeah, poptarts piss me the **** off too..

Well, when you're advertising to kids, you should keep it strictly G rated. But, even when targeting adults, swearing isn't necessary to sell, especially when you're supposed to have a professional image.

I'm not saying the swearing is wrong, just that it's unprofessional and I'm seeing more and more in situations where you're expected to have a professional image.

I had new boss at work, in a conservative (finance) corporate office who would cuss all the time. She was fairly young (early to mid thirties) compared to the rest of management and maybe this was the reason for her behaviour, but it made me and some of my collegues very uncomfortable.

It is highly unprofessional to cuss in an office setting, even if it's not "at" someone. The people you're working with are your collegues, not your friends and might be offended by your language.

Right, and if you're trying to convince me that you can represent me or my company in a professional manner, using swear words is not effective at all. Like I said, it's not that swear itself is offensive, but when you are expected to have a professional image, it's very inappropriate. I don't know where people have gotten the idea that swearing is now acceptable in a professional setting.

Elmer Fudd said it was a rascally racoon. Probably why you missed it.
