I wrote this piece many years ago when Whitney Houston died... Today, her daughter, Bobbi Kristina, has also died in similar circumstances... I'm forced to share my original post again...
Lessons From Whitney Houston's Death...
Matthew 5:30 - And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
Beloved of God,
Only God knows exactly where Whitney Houston presently is. From the days of her humble beginning in a church choir right up to her death, she blessed the world (200 million people and counting bought her records) with her unique voice. At the crescendo of her music and movie career, she set records that will take a generation to erase.
Is there any lesson to be learnt from her tragic death (dying at 48 is indeed tragic)?
Yes.
Whitney Houston’s problems started with her marriage to Bobby Brown and her resolve to make the marriage work at all cost. It was widely speculated that Bobby Brown introduced Whitney to drugs. By her stubborn believe in her marriage (which eventually died in 2007), she disobeyed the opening scriptures. Lesson: never love anybody or anything to an extent that it can cause you your salvation.
Whitney Houston’s fame and fortunes was her greatest undoing. She was living a lie and failed to seek for help when it was still possible. Mark 8:36 - For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Whitney Houston must have been a Christian at some point in her life (it is debatable, I agree), but, if only she took Apostle Paul’s advice in 2 Timothy 2:26 by activating the powers of her salvation, recovering herself and walking away from the snares of the devil! 2 Timothy 2:26 - And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
I join millions of people across the world to mourn Whitney. Jesus cried at the grave of Lazarus, not because of his death (of course He resurrected him back to life), but because the fear of death had held mankind in bondage. Hebrews 2:15 - And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. I am crying because I don’t know how many people will learn the lessons Whitney Houston left us with and how many people will still make similar mistakes in the future.
In Him,
