A gunman opened fire on Thursday at a community college in Oregon, killing several people and wounding others, county officials and local media reported, in the latest mass killing to rock a U.S. school.

There were conflicting reports on the number of casualties and wounded. An official with the Douglas County local government told Reuters that 15 people had been killed in the rampage at Umpqua Community College.

CNN reported at least 10 people had died.

The Portland Oregonian newspaper and CNN reported that a suspect had been taken into custody following the shooting, citing Douglas County officials. That suspect was not identified but CNN reported he was in his late 20s.

The shooting is the latest incident of gun violence in the United States, raising demands for more gun control and more effective treatment of the mentally ill. Recent episodes of gun violence include the massacre of nine people at a South Carolina church last spring and the killing of five U.S. servicemen in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

CNN reported that one of the wounded was a female who had been shot in the chest. The Oregonian said that at least six patients were critically injured in the shooting, citing an official with Life Flight.

The Douglas County Sheriff's office said on Facebook that officers had responded to a shooting at the college following 911 calls at 10:38 a.m. local time (1738 GMT).

Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg said on Facebook that the hospital had received nine patients from the shooting and had been advised that three more were en route.

"Please continue to pray," the hospital said.

Local media reported that authorities were combing through the campus, which serves more than 13,000 students, 3,000 of them full-time. Fall term began at the college on Monday.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said students and faculty members were being bused to the nearby fairgrounds where they could be picked up.

The paper said agents from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were en route to Roseburg, a city of about 20,000 people some 260 miles (418 km) south of Portland.

In 2012, seven students at the small Christian college Oikos University in Oakland, California, were shot dead by a former student, marking the deadliest outburst of violence at U.S. college since April 2007, when a student at Virginia Tech University killed 32 people and wounded 25 others before taking his own life.

According to Dear Leader, the American public is to blame for it. Mass guilt is a tactic used by anti-gun types. But hey, 14 were killed in Chicago last weekend and no press conference for those victims.

I knew that after a certain period of time had passed and no identification of the shooter was made that it probably wasn't some cookie cutter crazy white guy...

If it were the media would have had his name out 5 minutes after he was dead...

They said it happened in the morning. But 6-8 hours later, I seen article after article after article, saying "SEVEN to FIFTEEN dead, & 20 injurred (that was consistent),
The I read a CNN article that says ' the sheriff says the shooter is dead", but also says, " a spokesperson for the State Police say the shooter is in custody ".

So I stopped paying attention.

So watching CNN and of course they are all over the "What kind of gun did he use?" I guess they are hoping for another AR-15 rampage. Cops say three handguns and one rifle. No makes or models as yet.

Shooter described as a 26 yr old local. Name given, but no picture as yet.

I've seen published reports of the shooter asking people their religion, and Christians were shot in the head. Those non-Christian or not answering the question were shot in the legs.

Obama gave his usual "Gee I'm disgusted with America." speech and apparently referred to himself at a rate of twice a minute. Yeah dude, it's all about you being frustrated. Forget the DEAD PEOPLE, you're the one who's cheesed.

So more gun control speeches, but zip about mental health initiatives to target potential mass shooters. Also, this is a campus with apparently ZERO armed security, and considers itself a 'gun free zone' and doesn't even allow super soakers on campus. So people are dead meat until somebody shows up to save them. I guess that concealed weapons permit you have means squat when you go to school.

I still am a great believer that duly trained, responsible adults are capable of defending themselves and others when given the chance. Gun free zones simply paint a target on your back because there is no opposition for anyone wanting to do harm.

Very few people have the skills to disarm a shooter, and few people have the capacity to 'McGyver' a field expedient weapon like a fire extinguisher for use against someone.

Locking yourself in a classroom only works if the shooter doesn't want to take 5 seconds to obliterate the lock and still enter the room.

If you want to own a weapon, get trained, practice diligently, and apply for a concealed carry permit to carry it with you as often as you feel comfortable. Don't brag to people that you carry. Carrying concealed means just that. A good jacket that stays closed, prevents advertising that you carry.

When it comes to people declaring places 'gun free', only you can decide if you will abide by their wishes, or make a value judgement that your life supersedes their politics.

Yep...on 4chan...even had other 'tards telling him how to make it as worse as possible...

"" Federal authorities are looking into a suspicious
thread on the anonymous message board
4chan that appears to include someone with
similar intentions to today's unnamed shooter
who killed at least 10 people in
Oregon, according to The New York Times . The
thread, archived here , shows an anonymous
user on 4chan board /r9k/ advising others,
"Don’t go to school tomorrow if you are in the
northwest," late in the day on September 30th.
The identity of the shooter who attacked
students this morning at Umpqua Community
College in Roseberg, Oregon, remains
unknown, though it is confirmed police shot
and killed the 20-year-old man.
It is not yet clear whether the anonymous
4chan user and the shooter are the same
person. 4chan has become well-known as a
haven for some of the worst behavior on the
internet. In fact, many users egged on the
original poster and some even gave him tips on
how to carry out a massacre. Following news
of the shooting, the thread takes a twisted turn
as participants realize the gravity of a potential
link between the group conversation and the
killings. Nonetheless, the nature of the site
makes quick verification near impossible.""

CNN was saying the person in the video was the shooter for about 4 hours.

NBC had reported the person in the video was not the shooter about 2 hours before the official announcement happened. The person in the video made contact with a local NBC reporter and confirmed he was alive.

I found the tweet from the reporter, so either CNN is that stupid or they wanted to push the loser white guy narrative as long as they could.

This school violence just continually breaks my heart and terrifies me. I can't even imagine what children & college students must feel inside. That fear must lurk in their minds somewhere that it could happen to them. They really need to get some top pysychologists together and try to come up with a solution. Something is going seriously wrong in the minds of these individuals.

My condolences to all!!
