Here is my dumb guy question. Is is possible to have an online relationship with someone you never met? I know what online dating sites are, but until now it never dawned on me that a guy would call someone online his "girlfriend". What's up with that?

I think you posted in the wrong place here, but I can't answer for you because I have no idea. I guess if two people have been communicating for a long time and truly feel that they know each other, the physical meeting may only be a formality to them.

You can start an online relationship with someone you haven't met....
But for it to develop and grow into something more you have to have a surefire plan to meet as early as possible to see if those feelings translate in offline life....

I have heard of guys that conducted online romances for several years without meeting.....only to be very disappointed in the end when they got deserted online...

Eventually you need to meet.
Communication in that form can be good or bad
Good if they are telling you the truth about themselves. It's a way of getting to know each other.
Bad if they are lying and you find out. Liers will trip up.
I like to see facial expressions they can also tell a different story.

I used to believe what people tell me on line as well as face to face but that was destroyed. Now I question are they telling me truth or are they all crap.

Met a feller on here, talked for a year, felt the love
but dared not express it until we met.

He traveled here, across the continent twice to meet then
moved here after 2 years, been together 5+ years now.

You can feel the power of love without having met, online
only, but you simply cannot know for sure until you have
spent real time with them.

Then..you can call it love :-)
