There are positives and negatives in both situations.
Sex with one consenting person can be passionate and rewarding, especially if she's that special someone and you're into Giving and Sharing, while a threesome, in my experience, has no passion, only sex.
On the other hand a threesome is great for a man's self-esteem if you're only interested in the sexual aspect of the encounter, considering that the multiplication of positions and intricacies of making love with two different persons with their own personality is far out enough.
Personally, I like both but I prefer 1-on-1 because it means a woman loves and cares for me beyond the sex and pleasures we may give each other.
