When I see lovers' names carved in a tree, I don't think it's sweet. I just think it's surprising how many people bring a knife on a date :/ ?

it's not uncommon for people to have a pocketknife on them or a set of tools common to their interest or occupation or hobby.
I have a small toolbox in my car and when I was more into my art, there were other sharp objects with me.
my other half does a lot of construction and handyman jobs. it's always easy to find something like that in his truck and car

btw,
you don't need a knife to carve things. keys, a pen, other things more commonly found on a person

Haha, well last time I saw a couple's initials marked into wood it looked like it was done with glitter nail polish on a picnic table. Maybe someone forgot to bring their knife? Lol.

I write my feelings forever on the wall with fresh animal poo.

it's biodegradable, and it doesn't hurt trees.drinks

If trees could talk, they'd say OUCH!

When was the last time you hug a tree?

Haha. I don't think the knife is weird.
I think the thought process is weird.

They have some kind of need to announce it?

Reminds me of pregnant women who say, " We are having a baby... Alot "

Because these things. Coupling & breeding have NEVER happened before. rofl

when I was growing up,you weren't a Boy,unless you had a Pocketknife and some String on you, even in School!
Now they lay an Egg if they find you with a Pen-Knife!laugh
Still have a couple Scars where I cut myself!
Those things were sharp!

That's right. They got rid of "the norm" & then called it " abnormal ", to " criminal ", blah blah blah.... "homegrown terrorism "

grumble How convenient

Not as weird as ppl writing "M loves J" on the inside of a toilet stall in a pub with a black marker pen.
Who goes out to a pub with a black marker pen?

As for the knife, it was quite normal for a boy and man to have a pocket knife on him. My dad sure as heck always did. It was kind of odd when a guy didn't have one.

Who said it was carved with a knife?
Depending on the tree it can be done with a fork, a spoon, a fingernail, a coin, a stick, car keys, a rock.

Lots of things can make impressions and cuts in wood.

And who said they were the names of lovers carved in the tree?
Maybe it is just graffiti.
Maybe bears read what other people have done to other trees and believe it's a territorial marking so have copied it.
Maybe bears are using it as a trap. While you are reading they sneak up behind you and eat you. You escaped because they ate the three other people to have stood there looking at the tree so were full.
