A poorly thought out question about Donald Trump gets a CNN poster boy knocked down a few pegs

Sorry Fareed, you came 4,000 miles just to get owned

One of CNN's top hosts and a highly visible mainstream media propagandist, Fareed Zakaria got the Vladimir Putin treatment up close and personal over the weekend.

Zakaria had been invited to moderate a panel discussion at Saint Petersburg Economic Forum, which ran from June 16th to June 18th. Present on the stage were Zakaria, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, President Putin, and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.

Mr. Zakaria asked Putin why he complimented Donald Trump, calling him "brilliant, talented, and smart." Putin's response was, essentially, "I called him colorful - what part of 'colorful' don't you understand?" He then proceeded on a rhetorical tour de force against the hypocrisy of US foreign policy and criticism of Russia that left poor Fareed clearly looking like he'd been humbled.

Donald Trump has been grossly inflating Putin's words, even going as far as to claim, "He called me a genius." Zakaria didn't check the facts. This typifies the MSM laziness and mindless parroting of all manner of misinformation regarding Russia. Maybe next time smug Fareed will do his homework, if he wants to avoid getting schooled.

Another lesson in how smart it isn't to trust Trump to tell the truth about Trump.

AND another classic example of the most common modern "journalist" failure: basing everything on hearsay, without bothering to fact check or even think things through.

CNN host "schooled" by Putin

Not really, IMO.
And the OP seems to be just Putin propaganda.

Mr. Zakaria asked Putin why he complimented Donald Trump, calling him "brilliant, talented, and smart." Putin's response was, essentially, "I called him colorful - what part of 'colorful' don't you understand?"

It was ironic that Putin said "what part of 'colorful' don't you understand"...through a translator.

He then proceeded on a rhetorical tour de force against the hypocrisy of US foreign policy

IMO not really.
He made a lot of assertions with out a lot of context.
He wove a narrative.
And he was seriously disingenuous regarding u.s. "democracy" and elections. I can't believe he doesn't understand it to the depth his comments imply.

Otherwise it was basically "I am insulting the U.S., and you should listen to me because I'm pretending to be neutral and rational and just talking about what everyone knows."

Other than that, he was your basic politician.
He spoke on the subject he wanted to talk about, not really the subject he was asked about.

Donald Trump has been grossly inflating Putin's words

Donald Trump grossly inflates everything.
Hair. Buildings. Ego. Net worth. Wife's boobs.

Zakaria didn't check the facts

The only way he could have done that is if he learned Russian and/or talked to Putin in Russian and asked what he meant.
Why would he distrust a reputable translation service?
Do you distrust your lawyer when he presents you with a legal document? Do you look through every word, look them all up in the dictionary, consult another judge or 6, more lawyers, hire other lawyers to possibly draw up their own document and then compare it to the original, to make sure things really do mean what you think they mean?

No one looked positive in this "interview" imo.
Zakaria didn't get "schooled" and Putin looked like your typical D.C. politician, IMO.
Little different than the average episode of "meet the press."

Putin may be one evil man, but he is very smart and not to be underestimated. I actually respect the guy, I don't like him at all, but I do respect him.

Yeah.....Clinton would never speak rhetoric or float her own boat with lies or deception.... rofl

As far as CNN checking facts? When has anyone ever accused CNN of worrying about facts? Facts seem to always get in the way of their reporting so more often than not they choose to ignore them laugh

Another case in point.... My thread "Donald Trump Shut Down A Liberal TV Host"

They (CNN) even rushed to hire Cory (Trumps dismissed former campaighn mgr) thinking he would be bitter against Trump, and boy were they surprised when his comments were all in the defense of DT and he actually made a statement on air that he had NOTHING bad to say about his former employer and actually sang his praises to their viewers laugh

Clinton only gives media appearances when they are vetted in advanced and given a list of questions they are allowed to ask.

Clinton:
Over 200 days without facing a media scrum to actually "answer" questions. Only does preapproved sit-downs with select members of media with only prequalified questions allowed.
Does not take questions from general public

Trump:
Faces reporters almost daily, from EVERY network, until 2 weeks ago never used a teleprompter for speeches, and will take and answer "hard" or direct questions from any individual or media source

The future "unavoidable" debates in the general will be interesting even if Clinton's questions are orchestrated. We all know Trump doesn't play by the rules!

He has been facing the barrage of the media, facing the attacks from the liberal left, and by the time the battle begins Clinton will have no ammunition to use on him.

She on the other hand has been protected to this point, hasn't faced any attacks or real questions from the media.....

This is going to be bloody, and I don't think it will be Trumps blood!

This thread subject was focused on what Putin did or didn't say about Trump; what Trump was thought to have said that Putin said about Trump, by the "reporter;" and what Putin said in turn said back to the reporter, before the person claiming to have witnessed the interaction between Putin and the reporter , decided to stop paying attention.

It had nothing to do with Clinton.

And further, if Clinton does something wrong, that does NOT make it okay for Republicans, or Trump, or Putin, or you, to do the same thing.

Believe it or not, that "yeah, but she does it too, mommy!" crap didn't even work when most of us were little kids. It has no validity now, either.
