most Miners have been fighting for their health care along with their pensions ...since some mines have been closed down... they are waiting for congress to approve what really is owed to them for working all those yrs in the mines ... what they gave to some of them was not enough ... retraining someone in their sixty's and seventy ... is not helping them... they need their health care along with the pensions ... for their families and their selves... congress needs to give this to the hard working men and women of WV. that worked most of their lives in the mines... to produce what some would call electric for our state and our country ... wishing them well ... and do hope congresses does right by them...

They get a pension like everyone else, its known as Social Security. They get Health Care like everyone else, its known as Medicaid. They knew the risks and did what they had to to support their families just as many other Americans have done.

Mining has always been a hard, dangerous, dirty way of making a living.
Mine owners have for years put miners in even more danger by constantly ignoring safety regulations. But you know the risks when you take on the job. The working man in this country has been getting screwed since the start of the industrial revolution. It's sad. But that's the way it is.

Medicaid, and Social Security? Yeah, right. Come back and talk to me when you're sixty-seven and tell me how well that's working out for ya.

the point to this topic was they did not want to give them any benefits... they have worked for ... and are trying to take it all away from them ... maybe I was not very clear on that ... take away... not give nothing ... and not to change the subject but how many veterans don't get the help they need after going to war ... all you speak of ...is well and good in your head but not doing anything is not doing anything ... not getting nothing ... shakes head ...

Miners choose to work in the mines, they knew what they were getting into, now they want more? When you sign up for the military you know what you are getting into, you maybe injured, or you maybe killed. If you are not alright with that, then don't do it. Millions of blue collar workers have had pension's and medical cut down, or dropped. The Auto workers have been hit hard, things have changed. The unions are getting broken up, company's are being sold just to get the unions out, people are living a lot longer so pension funds are running out. People are living longer, taking more medicines, and being treated for a lot more things and now insurance has become unaffordable. So are you saying shaking heads is helping? Or shaking heads is hurting people? You know you aren't supposed to shake a baby, right? Am I really not doing anything to change things? Well I vote, I work, I pay a decent amount of taxes, and many more things, and that is more than a lot of people do. So no, you aren't being very clear, I understand nail caps response a lot more than yours.

that is great all you do and the more ... your young ... so when your old and someone wants to take away what you may have worked for all your life ... you going to sit around and not say anything ... about you or your co workers and what they may loose ... I live in a mining state and do know what these families go through and sure they know what their getting into ... but for someone to go bankrupt and every one looses or some hire younger workers... so they don't have to pay high wages to the elders anymore ...and give them what they are owed ... I see what they did to my fathers generation and that was when most of this came about ... so yes I hate seeing small towns go away most of the schools moved businesses moved... the only reason my old town is still somewhat alive is becouse of the courthouse ... it is very sad when they have to lay off people in the towns and have to move for a job or have to travel a great distance for one ... easy when your young ... but think about it all of your family is in one place and you have to move your family away to make a better living if you can ... really lots of stress on these families ... but I could sit here and not say a word about it ... but makes me feel a little better to tell what is happening in our towns and community... hoping for a better future for the young ...

you can't judge someone until you have walked in their shoes.

Many of these miners( especially the oldtimers) had no choice but to work in the mines.

It was the only work to be had and they did it to support their families.
