Well, I'd phrase it a bit differently. Paris Hilton didn't do all that, everyone around her did. She put herself out there, behaved as she wanted to, and the people who report AND CONSUME gossip kind of stuff, ran with what happened.

Most of all, it was luck of timing, I think. We've had lots of things become HUGE EVENTS in the world over the years, because certain technologies (in this case, the internet, and the burgeoning home-pc with high quality video abilities) came on the scene just as Paris H was deciding to be a social phenom.

One thing we did NOT see happen with the majority of the young girls who were "triggered" to try to enter the social circle the way Paris did, is that the vast majority of them DID NOT run to post sex videos online. Most of them just wanted to run around in glitzy places and get lots of attention from boys. Not really all that much of a new "thing," when you think about it.
