DETROIT - Tests on more than 1,200 children’s products, most of them still on store shelves, found that 35 percent contain lead — many with levels far above the federal recall standard used for lead paint.

Free Trade Act is between Canada and US. We have the same type of regulations regarding toys as US. Toys that are not conforming come from Asian and other manufacturers.

yes we know that

but why are they permitted to send them here if they do not follow the rules of manufacturing

yer missing the point

they regulate the companies out of the country

then they move to less regulated part of the world

and send the inferior product here
and all the workers in the regulated
countries lose their job

the economy of the unregulated country grows

and soon they are the new world power

like i said most of congress should be charged with treason

Problem is that the companies (home) follow the regs. as ordered. The outside companies Have no regulation imposed and despite the manufacturing laws the import laws are not set to the same standards. It's not that Congress needs to be replaced. It's that Congress needs to hear enough people complain about it that they adjust the laws regarding imports to fit the manufacturing regulations. The manufacturers State side know that one of the reasons they can get the product done cheaper is the poor regulation of products outside and the lack of import regulation. Work to get the import laws changed. Contact your Congress rep and tell them.

The ultimate insult in lead-lined items:

About a month or so ago, it was discovered that another import from China contained unacceptible amounts of lead.

The import in question was:

FAKE REDNECK BUBBA TEETH!

OK, folks, what's worse:

1. The fact that these "teeth" were loaded with lead?

OR

2. The fact that we're getting FAKE FREAKING BUBBA TEETH from China?

Yes the products from China are cheaper. They are cheaper when manufactured in other countries as well. (Mexico, Taiwan, the Dominican Republic, etc....)

These countries allow manufacturers to operate without granting even the basic human rights and fair labor practices. Their labor laws designed to protect the environment, quality, and the safety of consumers and employees are almost non-existent.

Of course its cheaper!!! We all no that enforcing those kinds of requirements increases the cost of business They are inevitable for many obvious reasons..

Which brings me back to protective tariffs. Are we (US) to return to the days of 80 hr work weeks, no safety laws, and the company store just to compete in a global Community? We are the largest Consumer Market in the world, for now.

We already work up to 25% more than Europeans, and still Corporations export our jobs. We can not expect to maintain good manufacturing jobs if we continue to allow these countries to import here without some kind of balance.

The price of goods and unfair labor practices that might as well be defined as slave-labor are killing us. "Us," not the CEO's. They just invest their money where the laws are lax and the labor cheap!.

If the Voters in America dont start paying attention to the "issues" during elections,,,,,,,,

...well, you might as well practice your service skills, cause that's what we are going to be left with!

Whoo hoo, Vote for Hillary!! Gee it will be nice to have a woman President! laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh
