Topic: Do you go out & socialize often?

Of late I'm becoming increasingly aware that I have to go out and socialize more. Due to circumstances, my social circle has gotten ridiculously small, to the point of almost not existent.

I still used to go out regularly, although not weekly, to a pub, but since I broke up with my ex I hardly ever do that anymore either. I often just don't feel like it. Having to go by yourself wears thin, sometimes I don't fancy the band they got in.

I don't work outdoors, I am very busy setting up my own business, but that's at home, again just me myself and I.
I've never been the kind of person to have a great many friends, I'm the kind of person who has 1 or 2 really really close friends. But at the mo I'm lacking those too.

I wonder how many of you are in a similar position? Working, but not really going out much and socializing?
Or do you and do you have a lot of friends?

I appears that you and I have the same amount of friends. I have 2 and one doesnt count, as he works for me. It sounds like we could write the same book.

In my teens and 20s I was never home. Since hitting my 30s though, that has slowed down to pretty much a stop. Most of my socializing these days is online.

I work shifts which are antisocial but many of my colleagues and friends at work are very social, as is the hospital environment in general .(we have departmental events ) . There is alwats a great mix of dinners .. sporting activities and get together's .. some of my best friends I met through work:heart: My life is pretty busy and I live in a remote location but I do make an effort to be social .. it just requires considerable planning biggrin waving

Wonderful that you have social contacts and events through work! I can understand with working shifts it would otherwise get quite difficult.
And yes, living in a remote area... I got that problem too. As well as living in the wrong area, lol. People have told me I should let go of that view, but it's not a view I made up and then it got difficult to relate to local people. It worked the other way round. And each time I tell myself to let go of it and to reach out regardless I only experience the same thing: me and people from this area don't click.
All the people I bump into with whom I do click turn out to be from the same area I'm from. And they all say the same thing: people here are too different from us. We're I'm from, people are inviting, open & warm-hearted and so on, people here aren't so much. Even after 14 years here I'm still kind of an outsider.
As such it's my intention to move out of here as soon as my financial situation allows for this.

I have 5 real close friends and see them quite often so I consider myself lucky and thankful. 2 of them I've known for over 50 yrs and the other 3 over 10 yrs. My best friend is actually male and he and I have seen each other through our ups and downs. Sometimes it's nice to hang out with him and get a male's perspective on things

Sounds good!

I doubt we are writing the same book, mine is on an entirely different subject, haha. But that is an actual book. I get your message! Thank you for replying flowerforyou

Yes, for me that's what it comes down to pretty much too. But I am increasingly beginning to miss a 'tribe'.
Are you okay with it being like that?

And you're okay with that, as in really happy?
Not judgemental, simply curious how this works for other people.

Yeah I am grand with it. I am busy enough in work, rushing around most of the time. So it's absolutely fine to relax at home apart from the football stuff

Or do you and do you have a lot of friends?

I used to be the life of the party, friends everywhere and plenty of things to do.
I got hurt and my health started to decline and those 'good time Charlies' evaporated and so did my activity levels.

Going anywhere by yourself gets really old and its no fun being invisible in a crowd of strangers. Add to that a relocation for health and you have a completely different option to finding new friendships.
I'm not only alone, I'm alone with few commonalities with others in my social status circles. I have no degree of separation introductions because I don't know anybody.

Add to that the fact that I grew up out in the country. I lived secluded most of my impressionable years (probably why I was the life of the party). My seclusion now is easier for me to handle because I don't get bored easy. This results in less imperative to be social.

Most of my day is spent in silence. People that are driven to be social will try to supplement their quiet with TV or radio 'noise' as a sense of comfort. There are times when I do break the quiet with a video or music for background effect but not very often. I've even stopped concerning myself with outside noises.

I know, if I felt better I would socialize more.
I know, if I had a friend I would socialize more.
What I don't know is how to feel well enough to make friends to start the cycle?

I have a few circles of friends, work, neighborhood and riding. So I go out pretty often. In the nice weather me and my friends who ride like to go out a lot.. its good.

There is always something going on, a Bar B Que, a party of some sorts.. always something.

And I like having people over to my own yard. Bar B Que then drinks into the night.. just talking, laughing. I have a pool and someone always ends up in it ;)

I have a strange small circle of friends. Two or three, I work with, and we, oddly have so much in common....particularly being parents of special needs children....famously homebound or in an antisocial predicament, to an extent.

These are gals I spend my time and my heart and soul with at work so extracurricular isnt as necessary...we wouldnt be available anyway due to tending to those special needs. That said, I have about 6 other antisocial special needs moms who I connect with online. We've met, but its mostly online.

My ex was extremely social, which was great but at the same time exhausting for me. We had a great time figuring out balance. Didnt work out anyhoo, tho.

Since he couldnt be around alcohol, I lost touch with those who wanted to 'grab a pint' or some such. Maybe I'll get back to that but these days Im enjoying parenting experiences with my cool son. He wants to go to the ballet and the opera, so we have tickets. woohoo! I got him to go to 'Barber of Seville' with me a few months back and he was hooked!

If the both of you wear them cool tin foil hats, I gonna take you to a football match bigsmile

I have a small circle we hang out as much as possible. Yesterday was fishing and kayaking on the river was a blast.
