^^^^ That's cos music that soothes you slows your brainwaves down. And you need to get from Beta (day/stress) to Alpha (relaxed) to Theta (about to fall asleep) to Delta (restorative sleep).

You can search for Theta music on YouTube to listen to, find a clip that you like and listen to that.
Or preferably one that goes from Alpha to Theta to Delta.
There's a collection of those here;

Thank you for your help. My life is not a topic. Please respect that.

Only good thing about insomnia is that I get up and make myself cocoa. So delicious late at night and it usually knocks me out afterwards.

sleep is important. One can be semi conscious in many of the stages of sleep and still get a quality nights sleep. Sleep quality depends on a lot of things.

Back in the day...
A healthy dose of bourbon would help.

You know its weird I rarely drink but when I do it keeps me awake. bizarre.

I have lived with it for nearly 23years now! Tried many tricks to go round it... works for a while.... And then again back to the square one... It's an awful feeling when everyone else is fast asleep I'm the night owl!

It's an awful feeling when everyone else is fast asleep I'm the night owl!

I experienced that when I was super stressed out after my accident and disability. No insurance, tremendous pain, no appetite, couldn't lay down, couldn't relax.
It took me 2 months to gather my papers for a disability claim and another month before it was approved and I could see a doctor again and get some meds.

I would spend nights on my daughter's sofa (I was homeless) and pass out from the pain for about an hour a night. I was fragmented, uncoordinated and would 'see things', weird things.

I had gone 4 days without sleep before but three months!
When I finally got some pain meds in me I slept for three days only waking to take more meds and some water. My daughter was scared.

Stress can do many strange things to you. Worry causes stress. It might help if you find inner contentment. Try to live in the moment (right here/right now).
Its not really a 'trick' if it becomes a way of life. Since its a way of life, it tends to last.

Pain still keeps me awake sometimes. I'm strictly over-the-counter pain meds now. Doctors seem to think everybody is a drug addict or a drug pusher. I've adapted but the pain is still bad sometimes.
I've learned to distract my focus from it.
Stress isn't a problem for me anymore. I don't worry about things.
I learned to live in the right here/right now.

I don't know your personal conditions and don't need to. If something I said works or leads you to another solution which works go for it.
You really do need to sleep at least 6 hrs per 24.
Brains need to defragment and clear.
Best of luck to ya!

Thanks a lot Tom for your empathizing. Yes my insomnia has a similar history, after I suffered from a detached retina! Prior to that I'd doze off wherever I'd have to! Yup still trying....
