I can't stop touching my scalp .... I know that sounds wierd but I constantly sit and rub my fingers through my hair touching my scalp . My Mom freaked and thought I had lice or something because it looks like i'm scratching . This has been going on for about 2months and it is getting so bad that I lay in bed and do it and can't fall asleep . I've developed little sores from scratches that I then pick and pick at . As I type this I have the urge to do it and have to clench my jaws together which kind of helps .
I don't know what to do embarassed ... How do I stop myself ?
explode explode explode explode explode

I can't just not do it . I've tried . I can't control it . I do it inadvertently .

you may want to talk to your doctor, could be a form of OCD. I've heard of something similar where people eventually start pulling their hair out, etc. Can be dangerous. There is something you can do about it, though, so make an appointment! flowerforyou flowerforyou

just use a dandruff shampoo... head n shoulders.... i know you prolly dont have flakes but i think your doing this because your scalp is too dry... (guess)

to me the little soars show the dry skin... (if it were moist you wouldnt had scabbed from rubbing) so i think that its just dry...

Maybe ... i'll try the head and shoulders . There aren't any flakes and it isn't itchy I rarely find anything . This all started when I burned my scalp w/a hair straightener and a blister formed and I couldn't stop messing with it . Now the blister is gone and I still can't stop .

ya i would use the HnS... i used to have dry scalp.. and thee are many things the moisture can do to help your scalp...( soft any shiny hair ia a good side effect)
even take some first aid ointment and mix some in if the feeling doesnt go away..

There is a nervous condition that involves messing with your hair and people actually end up pulling their hair out and some people even eat it, and they can go bald eventually from pulling it out. The blister may have started it, but there may be some underlying anxiety causing this. I would think the burn issue is all gone by now, could try the shampoo but if there are no flakes or itch, don't know that it will help. I do think you need to visit a doctor, may need something for your nerves to calm you down so you leave your head alone. Also treat the sores before they get too bad and infected. Take care of yourself.

def, go to a doctor if you feel that you need it, its appearent that you are stressed out about it, and still use the shampoo... its to heal the little scabs.. i've had em... it will at the very least give you a stronger layer of scalp.. enough to heal the scabs and prevent others from occuring.

Thanks all ..... it is really beginning to drive me insane . I will try the head and shoulders thing and maybe even the doctor if it gets much worse .

Hello Brandy....

It sounds more like a nervous tic/habit now.

And yes I would consider a doctor, but a GOOD one...try placing a loose rubber band around the opposite wrist to the one you write with, and every time you get the urge to rub your scalp, flick your wrist with the rubber band, then do something different to what you were doing.

Try this for a few days.... it helps 're-programme your mind' from the habit.

And no it is rare that the transferral of one habit/tic, will manifest into the flicking become a habit.

Are you under a lot of pressure at the moment? Any emotional stuff going on?

You dont have to answer me, it's fine, but have a think, and if there is be sure to let the doctor know.flowerforyou

Brandy defintley see a dr. especially if sore dosen't heal or spreads.

a friend of mine had a back injury which resulted in him constantly rubbing his neck. That in turn caused a sore on his neck which spread to his scalp. He ended up with tiny ichy red spots everywhere. By the time he went to a dr. he had a rash over half his body. Anyways they told him he had developed contact dermatitis from a skin injury (probally when he was constantly rubbing his neck from the back injury)

Sounds like dry scalp. You say it started 2 months ago..Hmm Is that when it started to get colder? Cold air can cause the scalp to dry faster than the warmer air. The sores ban be caused by the persistant rubbing. Tricks to this dandruff shampoo. Moisterizers help. If the problem persist it would be time to see a Dr.

If this is the first time this has occured then its probally nothing serious. But again a dr checkup is better safe then sorry.
