my dog i think is going into labor, im not sure. ive made her a bed in the bottom of my closet. she keeps trying to get under the sofa. i finally had to put her in my room and shut the door. i cant get to her under the sofa if she should need my help. is it ok to put her in a room? i put out water and keep check on her. im freakin out cuz ive never done this before. how do i know if she is in labor? are there signs? i feel stupid, but ive not done this.

Just let her be, she will know what to do, but do keep checking on her.

Animals tend to want to be in a safe, quiet, private place when they go into labor. She'll be ok in your room, but be careful when you check on her, she might try to escape. There's very little you'll need to do for her, unless there's a problem and it will be obvious if there is one. Then, just take her to your vet.

Good luck and congrats flowerforyou flowerforyou flowerforyou

Years ago my dog went under my bed to have her pups. We found out later that dogs/aminals have their young in an enviroment that that feel they will be safe when they are gone, can feed their ppups without being disturbed and can go eat away from them.

I would let her have them under the couch if, you do not mind shampooing the carpet when she is ready to move them to the next location (it took my dog about a month of two) but, she will be fine doing what she does.......US females are made that way, animal and human.

What kind of dog?

Hey hun its ok i'm in school to be a vet actually almost done! hehe well the signs for her goin into labor would be heavy panting nesting, tempt drop to 98 deg. and mucus comin out of her area what you can do is from the first time she contracts is start the count make she you write doen what time each baby comes out if she is in labor for more than 5 hours and still nothin get her to your vet in a hurry

just in case you will need scisors rubin alcohol string or non sented floss a baby sucker and lots of towels!! when the baby comes out she should do most of the work but if for some reason she don't yoiu need to rip the sack open cut the cord a good four fingers length from the baby and put that sucker down her throat and suck the fluid out! they rub her not to hard but enough to stimulate breathing then wants she is makin a fuss let her mama have her

i called the vet, they said that i need to bring her in if she has not had the pups in 3 hours so they can induce. im not sure about that either. she has not started to pass any mucus. she is just restless and nesting. but her being under the couch, i can not get to her if something should happen.
