Kevin Rudd, Prime Minister of Australia announced this week, of a summit to be held in April, of a 1000 average Australians, in a think tank situation, to add insight into the direction Australia needs to take into the future.

With Average Australians having a voice, and an input into the policy makings of this country's future, imagine how different it can be?

To utilise the wealth of experience in a grassroots manner, and for the apathy, of ' no-one takes any notice of us anyways' of many people's mindsets, with governments and policy making.... Kevin Rudd, you rock.!!!

Perhaps other leaders of countries could use the K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple Stupid) methods too, and turn their countries back into places where the people come first...you just never know. bigsmile

It is a great idea to let 'Joe Average' have his say. The problem though, in most governments, that the corporations pay the big bucks and 'Joe Average' and his opinion just don't add to the bottom line (or is that the lining of a political pocket).

One of the first statements made by Kevin Rudd, to his new potential cabinet ministers was; "There is no 'Old Boys' club, in this government, you WILL NOT receive any favours, in this government, you EARN the right to be here....NO FAVOURS, to any".

He has in such a short time, lived up to his promises, pre-election, and in just a matter of months, he has rectified many of the mistakes made by previous governments.

Finally, the Stolen Generation , of Indigenous Australians, are to be publicly acknowledged, with a day set aside, annu8ally, on Feb 13th, as a National Sorry day, and a continuing awareness of the challenges faced by Indigenous peoples here in Australia.

The Kyoto Protocol, signed and delivered.... the contempt for the Japanese Whalers, the lack of fear of stepping up to the plate, with a condemnation of China's behaviours, with Tibet.... this is the first leader of this country, to not be bent over by big business,. Money may make some worlds go round, however, if the money is only changing hands amongst the few, whilst the majority of the population suffers, then the wheel DOES need re-inventing, and this government acknowledges changes MUST be made.

The 2020 Summit, is where I threw my hand into the air, along with many other socially conscious people also, and to finally have a voice, and not some weak token hand holding experience, is the beginnings of re-inventing the wheel....and I want to be on the coal face of change, for this country.

Other nation leaders can, and need to learn from this example.
