The begining part where the Visitor leader Anna appears as the giant image projected from the starship and speaking to the world was cool

Yeah, all the CGI in general is cool, as well as the basic concept of "aliens from outer space". Without those two, it would be just another run-of-the-mill spy story/soap opera.

Only a couple times. It had the same basic "cool factors". But this new one has better special effects, so it's at least that much better.

The original was much darker than this newer one. More of a sci-fi/horror type show. It looks silly now since the special effects are so outdated but the story was much better Do you ever watch "Lost"? That is a pretty good scifi show although it didnt start becoming sci-fi until several seasons into the series

And I never got into the original "V" so I didn't really have anything to compare the new one with other than vague recollections of the overall theme.

Lost is a great show. You should watch it from the begining if you get a chance. It started out as a drama but has become more of a scifi show as the story gets further into the series.
