Hmmm. Mustang or Harley. Close call as long as you're talking about REAL Mustangs (64-73) or non-883 Harleys. Both suck in the snow! I have a 1970 Harley Rapido (made in Italy) that's been collecting dust in the basement for over a decade. Not my favorite by any means and far from something I'd cruise around regularly, but is a cool conversation piece!
I do gotta agree though. As much as I love them, Harleys are way over priced. Don't know if it's from making money from the name, government restrictions raising the price (like how Pittsburgh lost the steel industry to Japan), unions raising wages, or ??????, but unfortunately jap bikes are way cheaper and usually better quality. Does the AMF era ring a bell? Seems like quality has gone up in the last decade or so to the point where you don't need to keep somebody on the back to watch for parts falling off or adding a quart of oil every 100 miles, but, they are still way underpowered and overpriced! My one 'little bike', '79 Yamy xs650 special(usually gets confused for a Triumph) has 1/2 the engine size and puts out about as much power as a Harley 1340 and handles way better and less weight! 883's, 1100's and most 1200's don't stand a chance in a race in stock form! Even with mine completely stock, points ignition and all! Even my 70's era Honda CB750's put out more (or close to) horsepower than the new Harley 1584's and weighs less! I, in no way, try to support buying foreign (except maybe German or Swiss anything), but what is Harley thinking? Bikes have minimal emissions standards, but they can't figure out how to make reasonable power after 100 years? Even my one car,'75 BMW 530i, puts out 1 hp per cubic inch and managed to reach 'smog era' standards to be able to be imported! Even though I'm 1/2way looking for another Harley, they ARE over rated. Now with other American companies making bikes like Victory (which isn't bad) and Indian back now, HD gotta stop living off it's name (like Pioneer electronics did for decades) and get with it. |

I gave up on my 66 GTO, sold the body kept the motor. Had it since I was 17. Got into bikes. I have a shovelhead kickstart homemade bike.. I love ridding.. no helmet, no bags, no windsheild. I put a picture of it in my profile..

sports bikes all the way baby.....
harleys can't compete with goldwings, but harleys do look good on the back of a truck which is where many of them end up because they suck mechanically. |
