off topic should be made an option in the reporting page. it's rude and disruptive.

Although it sounds like a good idea, I think there's a likelihood that it may get too abused. There are people who zealously try to bust others over little things, so if someone makes a joke that is indirectly related, someone may get trigger happy. I think also moderators have the power to determine off topicness as I've seen an instance of announcements getting back on topic.

Thanks, Spiro, all you need do is type it in the text field. The mods will handle this subjectively. We do understand there will be a certain amount (to borrow from Lex) of "topic drift" from time to time, however, those who continually hi-jack threads may have their posting privileges revoked. We would like to avoid this, but we will if we have to.
Also, I removed a couple of posts here. Please see This rule |

i don't mind the odd off-topic post at all. sometimes they can lighten up an intense mood and give everyone a chuckle.
it's the pages and pages of crap that you have to sift through that tends to get on my nerves, especially if it's a topic that isn't in chit chat. i was a member on a site and the admin decided to do away with ALL personal posts and entire threads because of this and it ended up being FAR worse off than what it was so i'm careful for what i wish for now! |

When people are bored they seem to say anything to pass time .
I see no harm in that . After all the threads are not a scared aspects of any given group . .

QUOTE: and sometimes some threads desperately need to be taken off topic Funny, in reading through this thread I thought of the countless times I've seen the Q divert WWIII by throwing a bit of humor into the mix. So yep, sometimes threads need to be taken off topic. I like turtles.
