Their Time
She carried their time in her pocket. The round faced watch on a chain, Had chimed every day for his lifetime, Remembering like his wedding ring. For years it would chime on the hour, Til silence no longer could hear, Her heartbeat that kept her in rhythm, Reminding he always was near. 'Til one day she found in her drawer The keepsake box with the chain, An old round faced watch there, No ticking or movement, poor thing. Living in the drawer, forgotten No memory of reason and pain. Her life had continued her rhythm, His watch was not needed the same. She still keeps his watch in the drawer, Along with his gold wedding ring. Love remembers their time and their rhythm, Just different, her breathing retains. She carries new time on her neck chain. The last gift he gave that remains.
