The majority of the museums and exhibits are free. The metro is very cool and will get you around town pretty reasonably. Hotels can be expensive. The closer you are to the Capitol, the more you will pay. If you don't mind taking the train or bus then you might find better deals. You will love it.

Thanks.
How expensive is expensive? I don't want to spend a lot of time figuring out train schedules. |

Set up a tour of the Capitol through your congress person. It's still free, but you'll get a better tour that way.
Go to museums and monuments as well. Figure out the train schedule. It's not hard and you'll have to take it at some point. Go to the Library of Congress.

I visited the monuments and walked around the pond.
Spring time and the cherry trees were in bloom. That was in 1971.

Just stay out of the hood man. Don't climb on the Abraham Lincoln statue while your drunk. Those brothers don't play now.....
