As it gets hotter I pay more attention to turning off my computer when I am not using it as it wastes electricity and puts out heat.

I have a typical desktop with the usual energy saving software.

Anyone know how many watts of power it uses just left on? ... or a general range?

It's about six months old with an I7 processor. I put in high capacity cooling fans which are kind of noisy but I doubt if they use much juice.

100-125, assuming you are using on-board video and two RAM DIMMs. It probably uses only 5 when turned off or in sleep mode.

I have a high capacity video card. So I guess it is somewhat more.

The fans run even when the computer is asleep.

Five watts isn't much so I won't bother to turn it off more than I already do.

Thanks for the info.drinker
