The whole in the Ozone layer fluctuates and vaies size every year. It is located over the Southern pole region almost directly over Australia.

The major cause for it is unknown but it is seasonal starting in the spring when the sun melts ice crystal that have formed in the upper stratosphere.

After about 8 weeks it begins to move, float you might say and drifts over areas in the southern hemisphere. S. America, the Falkland and Australia!

It was only discovered by the British with the advent of modern technology in the early 80's. Therefore it is very controversial and unknown how long this has been happenning.

Just recently there has been a discovery of an ancient city in Chinas remote deserts that has been buried in sand for 2200 years. It wasnt discovered untill 1996 and studies have yet to be completed.

However it is known that once this area was irrigated farm land with many different grains, fruit trees, and a wide variety of animals! The structures of this city were made from poplar trees that once forested the area. Now it is all desert sand, void of all water and wildlife. 2200 years ago it was a vital green region with rivers!

Im not saying that we are not having an effect on the speed at which global warming is happenning, but it has been going on for a lot longer than humans have burned coal, had industries, or driven cars!

One reason for all the alarm in recent times is because modern science has just pointed the problem out in the 80's, before then we had no idea. Not that it existed nor how fast, or long it has been going on! I hate to even get into a discussion about it there is so little know.

I think it never hurts to reduce our carbon footprint, but there really is no proof, YET, that we have anything to do with it. To sit around and cry the sky is falling is a rather paranoid reaction unless you are living in Australia where the effects truly are felt every year!

Chop, chop, my heads on the block!!!

I realize that Jess. That's why I posted this. It affects y'all real bad. It is the worst area in the world to be when this happens every year.

The size does fluctuate though and overall scientist say it seems to be getting smaller.

Everyone has some effect on this I think, but China is killing us all>>

With all due respect Duncan, F**K the queen! I want to take over just for the warm weather and beaches!laugh
It's cold and pouring rain here right now. I have a trailer load of loose fibreglass insulation and the wind is taking it away. I'm soaking wet from trying to tarp it and getting grumpy!grumble
Why did anyone inhabit this part of the planet? Why is it that people actually want to subject themselves to these elements? If you're not extracting natural resources from the area, move somewhere warm and stop burning them up needlessly! Does this make any sense?
We have to stay warm for 6 months of the year and we use a phenominal amount of natural gas doing so. We warm up our vehicles because if we don't they break down or freeze. We have lights on for the majority of the winter because the sun doesn't shine here!
Why do we insist on being here?!?!!???!!?!!??!?!
Is this insanity?
Or is it just me?

I'll bet everything is frozen solid by 2 am.grumble
