Purple!

With 11 marriages between them, my parents saw to it
that I went to a lot of high schools.
I was always the 'new' girl.

So I am 16, new high school, first day and I
am packed in an overflowing classroom awaiting
the teacher we all just had to have.

The teacher arrived to announce the class was
double its doable size and she asked for volunteers
to vacate to the other class (that no-one wanted.)

Silence.
Then, I notice, about 4 desks in front of me, a
long arm going up, wrapped in the status sweater of
a 3rd year varsity athlete of some sport or other.
He turns 360* in his seat, and looks at me, hand still raised.
He just stares.
And begins this slow wicked smile.
I swear my hand went up on its own.

He jumped up, came to my desk, gathered my books,
stacked them with his under his arm, and pulled me by
my hand from my seat.
As we walked out, never having said a word, the other
students all parted to let us by.

Out in the hall he just looked at me, raised my hand
to his lips, and said 'Hi, my name is Kent.'
Unforgettable introduction.

We were together until he died at 22.

I lost my innocence on a tarzan vine.
