"If you don't like what Christians say and do....then stay out of the chruches and don't worry about it."

ha ha ha

You have a deal...but please do return the favor and keep your church out of my public square, my bedroom, my doctors office, my government, my public school, my marriage...

Understand? even a little?

Seems Palin supports and endorses a man who jokes about marital rape and who is clearly bigoted.

This guy is her pick??

Thank God McCain was defeated...can you imagine, had she been involved in the process of selecting a potential SCOTUS justice??

"There's a storm gathering." A minute-long TV spot by a group called the National Organization for Marriage is already spawning YouTube parodies of its grave, Terminator-esque warning about gay marriage destroying the American Way of Life.

But for sheer hilarity, no parody can match the audition tapes for the ad, in which a series of no-name actors stand in front of a green screen and mostly botch lines like "the clouds are dark and the winds are strong" and "I'm a California doctor who must choose between my faith and my job."

The audition videos, uncovered by the Human Rights Campaign, seem too good to be true. But NOM has helpfully authenticated them by sending DMCA notices to YouTube to get them pulled down. Vimeo.com hosted the banned videos for a while, but now also appears to have folded like an umbrella.

So internet rebels are reportedly saving the videos with keepvid.com, and then uploading them back to YouTube when they're pulled. Washington City Paper is keeping up with the YouTube roulette.

There is a significant difference between having errors and oversights in your taxes and not paying them at all.

Boy...might be fun to subject your returns to the scrutiny of the IRS and the Obama vetting team.

But...back to the man Palin thinks would be a swell AG.

You know...the guy who said marital rape is okay?

Bet if you are a woman in Alaska now who is the victim or domestic abuse or rape you would feel secure in knowing the states highest law enforcement official thinks what was done to you is within a mans rights?

Lest you think this guy just thinks that marital rape is okay here is more. In 1993 Ross used words like "immoral," "degenerates," and "perversion" in a letter to the state bar association during a fight over gay rights.

Sick minds?

Joking about rape...well that's an insight...

By the way I would be remiss in not mentioning that men are raped too. It is every bit as offensive as the rape of women or children although I find the crime of raping a child even more awful.

The job of an AG is to be the chief law enforcement power in the state and they have broad discretion in setting enforcement priorities. If I were a woman in Alaska I would really wonder what his policies and priorities were in regards to my safety and rights.

War you are right...

But...perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that there might be vetting issues in anything Palin is involved in.

For your consideration

28% - Republicans: Fewer, More Conservative
Pew

Wed Apr 8, 1:00 am ET

Among registered voters, 28% call themselves Republicans, a decline of five points since 2004 and only a point above a record low level of Republican self-identification in 16 years of polling by the Pew Research Center, found in March 2008. Nearly four-in-ten voters (38%) identify as Democrats and 34% self-identify as independents. These data are based on more than 28,000 interviews conducted during 2008 prior to the election. Among voters who now identify as Republican or Republican-leaning, roughly two-thirds (68%) identify themselves as conservative, and of the conservatives, three-quarters think the party should turn further to the right. While a majority of moderates and liberals within the party advocate a centrist approach (66%), they make up fewer than a third (31%) of Republican voters overall. As a result, 60% of all Republican voters support a more conservative direction for the party.

Louis Armstrong and Johnny Cash - Blue Yodel No. 9
I would have never guessed, but Louis Armstrong was a guest on the Johnny Cash Show. This and the story about Satchmo and Jimmie Rogers show how diverse musical tastes these men had and once again that music is a great connector. This is from episode 38, Oct., 28, 1970 and must be one of Satchmo's last performances. He was such a great performer right to the end and the Nashville audience and Johnny just loved him. Louis Armstrong cracks everybody up at the start of the song: Let's give it ...

She is joking about and it seems approving of marital rape.

Makes me wonder if she is married.

Tune in to KUDO. New Revelations About Palin’s AG Pick.
9 04 2009

Leah Burton discusses Wayne Anthony Ross’ appointment and her explosive testimony before the Legislature.

Stream it Live HERE.http://www.kudo1080.com/

Tomorrow House Judiciary Committee will meet and take citizen testimony on the nomination of Wayne Anthony Ross to be our next Attorney General.

Leah Burton is on with CC, sharing her testimony regarding Wayne Anthony Ross. She is a former citizen lobbyist who worked on behalf of families and children concerning child support, child custody, domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault.

She discusses a meeting of the group DADS, being run by Wayne Anthony Ross, and what she heard.

Numerous comments were made that were appalling, not the least of which were remarks by Mr. Ross which included the following; “If a guy can’t rape his wife…who’s he gonna rape?” and “There wouldn’t be an issue with domestic violence if women would learn to keep their mouths shut.”

Other members made their own contributions such as, “We have the right to discipline our wives and children without the interference of government in our lives!”

These comments were greeted with laughter and affirmative responses by the group. Given the fact that they had referred to me in recent months as a “femi-nazi”, the comments I was witness to at this meeting, while abhorrent, were unfortunately not surprising.

This announcement by Governor Palin is a slap in the face to all single parents who have no choice but to rely upon the State Department of Law to support court orders for child support, as well as those persons who need the Department to enforce criminal laws against sexual assault and domestic violence. Mr. Ross is the antithesis of the type of person that should be the Attorney General. This has been clearly demonstrated by his own words and actions in public.

In closing, I am not alone in my assessment that anyone who condones, and contributes to that type of hateful and harmful discourse clearly does not have the judgment necessary to represent the people of the State of Alaska as their Attorney General.

You can read her entire written testimony http://shannynmoore.wordpress.com/

First time caller?

Here's a transcript of a call to Rush for you all to enjoy.

HP….LIMBAUGH: We’re going to go to Chicago. This is Charles. Charles thank you for waiting and for calling. Great to have you here. Hello.

CALLER: Thanks Rush. Rush listen, I voted Republican and I really didn’t want to see Obama get in office. But you know Rush, you’re one reason to blame for this election, for the Republicans losing. First of all, you kept harping about voting for Hillary. The second big issue was the torture issue. I’m a veteran. We’re not supposed to be torturing these people. This is not Nazi Germany, Red China, North Korea. There’s other ways of interrogating people, and you just kept harping about, it’s okay, or it’s not really torture. And it was just more than waterboarding. Some of these prisoners will killed under torture.

And it was crazy for you to go on and on like Levin and Hannity and Hewitt. It’s like you’re all brainwashed. And my last comment is, no matter what Obama does, you will still criticize him because I believe you are brainwashed. You’re just — and I hate to say it — but I think you’re a brainwashed Nazi. Anyone who can believe in torture has got to be — there has got to be something wrong with them.

LIMBAUGH: You know –

CALLER: And I know Bush wanted to keep us safe and all of that but we’re not supposed to be torturing these people.

LIMBAUGH: Charles, if anybody is admitting that they are brainwashed it would be you.

CALLER: No, no, Rush. I don’t think so. You, Hannity, and Levin are all brainwashed –

LIMBAUGH: Charles, you said at the beginning of your phone call that you didn’t want Obama in there. But you voted for him because of me.

CALLER: I didn’t vote for him. I voted for McCain. I voted Republican.

LIMBAUGH: Oh, so you’re saying I turned people off –

CALLER: You turned people off with all this vote for Hillary and all this BS.

LIMBAUGH: That was Operation Chaos. That was to keep the chaos in the Democrat primaries –

CALLER: It didn’t work and what we have with you Hannity Levin and Hewitt is sour grapes. That’s all we have. And believe me, I’m not — I’m more to the right than I am to the left.

LIMBAUGH: Oh, of course you are.

CALLER: I am.

LIMBAUGH: Of course you are. You wouldn’t be calling here with all of these sour grapes if you weren’t.

CALLER: Well I’m tired of listening to go on and on with this –

LIMBAUGH: I don’t know of anybody who died from torture.

CALLER: We’re not supposed to torture people. Do you remember World War II, the Nazis? The Nuremburg trials?

LIMBAUGH: Charles, Barack Obama –

CALLER: What’s the matter with you? You never even served in the military. I served in the Marine Corps and the Army.

LIMBAUGH: Charles, Barack Obama is president of the United States today because of stupid, ignorant people who think like you do. You pose - you and your ignorance are the most expensive commodity this country has. You think you know everything. You don’t know diddly squat. You call me a Nazi? You call me someone who supports torture and you want credibility on this program? You’re just plan embarrassing and ludicrous. But it doesn’t surprise me that you’re the kind of Republican that our last candidate attracted. Because you’re no Republican at all based on what the hell you just said right here……

Seems since things are mess in VA hospitals the way to fix it is...to prevent the public from hearing about it?

I know change comes slow in large institutional settings but silencing vets and reporters who bring their stories to the people isn't the way to fix them.

VA seizes reporter's tape

This is a pretty remarkable story:

Last Tuesday night, [public radio reporter David Schultz] was covering a public event at the VA Hospital in Washington, D.C. While interviewing one of the veterans about the poor treatment he was receiving at the hands of the VA, [Gloria Hairston, an internal communications specialist with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs] demanded that Schultz stop recording the interview and hand over his recording equipment.

"She said I wouldn't be allowed to leave," Schultz tells WTOP.

At first he refused. But after being surrounded by armed police officers who stood between him and the exit, he looked for a compromise.

"I became worried that I was going to get arrested," Schultz says.

Schultz convinced Hairston that all she really needed to confiscate was the memory card to his recorder, rather than all of his equipment. While this was going on, many of the veterans from the meeting had come out to watch the confrontation.

One of those veterans, an amputee in a wheelchair, approached Schultz and asked him for his phone number.

"I started to give it to him and then the woman {Hairston} became irate, she said you can't give him your phone number. You have to give me all of your equipment, or I'm going to get ugly. She used the phrase 'get ugly,'" Schultz says.

Like any good reporter, Schultz stood his ground and called his boss for direction. Longtime newsman Jim Asendio is the news director for WAMU.

"I told him to give them the flash card and get out of there," Asendio says. "I didn't want this to get out of hand."

Schultz reluctantly handed over the memory card from his recorder.

A message left with the VA press office wasn't immediately returned.

For all those who happily look forward to their heavenly reward I say, why wait!

Thomas in a post early in this thread you said where you were going only Christians were.

I have a couple questions regarding where you are going and who will be there.

Here's one...if it is so swell why wait? I know suicide is frown on but what about death fighting for the cause of God, Christ, other Christians...you know...your team? Personally I am fairly sure God doesn't take sides but...since I so frequently hear people of various social and political causes proclaim God is on their side I am assuming there may be people that actually believe it. So is dying in the cause of God even when you know you are going to die the same as suicide? Do you go to heaven?

I better leave that line of thinking alone for now. Neocons and other so called Christians along with religious wingnuts are dangerous enough to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness already. No need to suggest you all start any new wars or go around bombing more clinics, or invading countries or torturing others...all in the name of God.

You all are as dangerous as any jihadist.

Umm so anyway...let's forward abit to that "where I am going there are only Christians part" I have some more related questions.

I am assuming, and please correct me if I am wrong, that you posts indicates that you believe only Christians will ascend to Heaven to what is it...sit at the right hand of God? Will Catholics get in? After all they are Christians but they confess to the priest and not the Heavenly Father. Is this an impediment to them in the whole ascending to heaven business? What about Anglicans? After all they allow gay pastors don't they and well...I would dare say many other so called Christians find gays quite objectionable. So, what sort of Christians will be there with you? Will Catholics and Anglicans be there?

This leads me to another question.

Here is a description of heaven:
Revelation 21: 15-21
15The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. 16The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia[a]in length, and as wide and high as it is long. 17He measured its wall and it was 144 cubits thick,[c] by man's measurement, which the angel was using. 18The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. 19The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, 20the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.[d] 21The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass.

Do you really think there are streets of gold? Is the Muslim idea of the afterlife so different?

Qur'an 2:25 And give good news to those who believe and do good deeds, that for them are Gardens in which rivers flow. Whenever they are given a portion of the fruit thereof, they will say: This is what was given to us before; and they are given the like of it. And for them therein are pure companions and therein they will abide.

Is it possible that there is just one God and that God has communicated his divinity to all people via a message that they can most easily understand?

John 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Ex. 3:13-22: Moses asks God what His "name" is. Moses is not asking "what should I call you;" rather, he is asking "who are you; what are you like; what have you done." That is clear from God's response. God replies that He is eternal, that He is the God of our ancestors, that He has seen our affliction and will redeem us from bondage.

Could it be that you will arrive in Heaven and find yourself living for eternity next door to a Muslim, an Anglican, or even a Buddhist?

I am not trying to be disrespectful here. I really want to know the answers to these questions.

To those that think this is in the wrong forum I ask for your forgiveness. I put it here as a follow-up to Thomas's post and I didn't want him to miss it.

No one forced Levi to appear on Tyra or respond to Palin on CBS.

No one forced Palin to issue statements regarding his appearance.

She made this a public issue and she keeps doing so.

If she can't handle the provocation issued by a teen aged idiot who knocked up her daughter imagine will you, for a moment, how she would have responded to the taunting of oh let's say Iran.

But...maybe we will see after all so many posters who love her say she is the future of the republican party!

Some stuff to ponder. A quantum physicist turned Anglican priest he figures science can prove and explain God.

This is a great article in part because of it's embedded links and audio which can be found at: http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/blog/2009/apr/09/religion-controversiesinscience

Earlier this year, a former Cambridge physicist, John Polkinghorne, published a book called Questions of Truth: God, science and belief. I interviewed John shortly after it came out, and as Easter is now upon us, it seemed as good a time as any to post the whole interview.

Polkinghorne ditched science many moons ago to be ordained into the Anglican ministry. His book is essentially a paper incarnation of a website run by Polkinghorne's former pupil, Nicholas Beale, where the two post answers to questions sent in by readers.

I was interested in talking to John because I wanted to try and understand how he could believe extraordinary things for which there is no evidence. This is what fascinates me about people with religious beliefs. What is going on in someone's brain that allows them to believe there is an invisible, all-knowing, omnipresent superbeing out there? By what process does someone come to the conclusion that there is a God? Of course it might be true, but it's a major thing to sign up to, so surely one would want some pretty hefty evidence before even considering it?

John believes that something called God literally became man. He believes that a chap called Jesus was literally raised from the dead. He believes that after his own death, he will be re-embodied by God in a form of matter that is not of this world.

There are plenty of people out there bashing religion, and many of the awful things that are done in its name. I had no interest in attacking Polkinghorne's beliefs, as baffling as I find them, but I did want to know why he holds the beliefs he does.

Annoyingly, I didn't end up with the kind of insight I was hoping for. Apparently it takes a long time to explain why such beliefs are held, and it's all very complicated. I felt John re-asserted his beliefs more than explained why he held them.

There was plenty in Polkinghorne's book I found offensive. In one passage, he says that God hides from us because if we ever clapped eyes on an infinite being, we'd be unable to carry on as we are. We'd be overwhelmed to the point of hopelessness. As John says in the interview: "We'd sort of shrivel up."

It's extraordinary stuff. And surely a bit patronising. My reaction to superbeings in comics has always been excitement and mild envy (great powers, but not sure I could go with the outfits). If I was to see the ultimate superbeing, I'd be very excited for a long time. I might even get a poster and go around praising them. But I think I could carry on a life of human mediocrity.

John finishes on a positive note about the teaching of Creationism and Intelligent Design in classrooms.
I wonder if religious belief can be considered a neuropathology, albeit a sometimes benign one? The universe is extraordinary, nature is beautiful and complex; consciousness is baffling. But why conjure up a superbeing to make sense of it all?
